Can you block a creature AND sac the blocker?

Asked by Jeyrrick 9 years ago

Can you announce a creature as a blocker and then sacrifice it at instant speed and have the attacking creature still be blocked?

For a more specific example, an opponent attacks with Zurgo Helmsmasher and I announce Renowned Weaver as a blocker. I sacrifice at instant speed before Zurgo deals damage to it; would Zurgo still be considered blocked or would the 7 damage go through?

Once an attacking creature is blocked, it remains blocked for the rest of combat. Removing the blocker or making the block illegal later in the game will not change the fact that the attacker is now blocked.

If the blocker is removed from combat prior to the combat damage step, the attacker will deal no combat damage unless it has trample or a Rhox -like ability.

What Epochalyptik said. Also, Zurgo Helmsmasher would not get the +1/+1 counter because he never dealt damage to Renowned Weaver .
