Can I win by playing a card that reads "You can't Lose" when the game ends in a draw?

Asked by H3y_Im_Rob 2 years ago

Since ending the game in a draw means everyone loses, would I be able to play Angel's Grace or have Platinum Angel on the field when something like Divine Intervention 's last counter is removed by something like Clockspinning or AEther Snap and win?

Draws don't result in everybody losing, they result (pretty straightforwardly) in a draw. Nobody wins, nobody loses. Platinum Angel and Angel's Grace don't prevent a forced draw.

If, say, someone drops a massive Earthquake that drops everyone to 0 life simultaneously while you have Platinum Angel out, you would not lose the game for having 0 life, while everyone else would lose the next time state-based actions are checked. As the only non-loser, you would win.

Likewise, if a player had an Abyssal Persecutor in play, the game would still be a draw - it only prevents somebody from winning - not drawing.

The only way you could use Divine Intervention to win a game is if you were playing in a multi-player game using the option Range of Influence rules, and you were the only player outside of that range of influence.

(eg. a four player game with a Range of Influence of 1, and the controller of Divine Intervention was sitting across from you. When they remove the last counter from DI, they, and the player to their right and left will all draw, and leave the game. As the only player left, you'll win by default. But that's DEEPLY weird.)
