Can i tuck a commander?

Asked by gurthang034 9 years ago

Can I tuck a commander card that is on the battlefield via Bant Charm or Condemn?

I believe i am allowed to perform these actions, but my wife is challenging me in that I would not allow her to perform a similar action in previous games. Are there any changes to the commander rules I am not aware of?

Simply looking for confirmation.

Yes, you can tuck a commander.

"If a Commander would be put into a graveyard or exile from anywhere, its owner may choose to move it to the command zone instead. This is a replacement effect; the creature never goes to the graveyard and will not trigger such abilities. Commanders will move to the library or hand as normal; only transitions to Exile or the Graveyard may be replaced." (from MTGCommander rules)

The replacement effect that allows you to return your commander to the command zone instead of putting it into the graveyard/exile does not apply to libraries.

Yes, you may do this. A commander can only back to the command zone if it would be exiled or put into the graveyard, which is not 'tucking' like Condemn does.

You can tuck a commander if you are using the normal multiplayer rules. If you are playing by French rules (duel commander) then there is the same replacement effect for moving a commander to the library as for exile and the graveyard. If you don't know which rules you use you are playing using normal rules.
