Can I tap things like Golem's Heart to boost Lodestone Myr?

Asked by sparta88 8 years ago

Hi guys, this is a question for my brother. He wanted to know if he could by rule legality, tap artifacts that are otherwise non-tapping to boost Lodestone Myr, and if so, would that also temporarily shut off said artifact's triggered abilities?

Golem's Heart, Lodestone Myr

The only restrictions to Lodestone Myr's activated ability are that the affected card must be untapped, and it must have the subtype "artifact" you can certainly tap Golem's Heart for the Myr's ability.

Even if a permanent is tapped, triggered abilities still on the card will trigger as normal unless specifically stated otherwise. (See Howling Mine and Blinkmoth Urn)

When you tap an artifact for Lodestone Myr's ability, what you're actually doing is activating Lodestone Myr's ability and paying its cost by tapping that artifact. Because the tap is part of the ability's cost, the artifact you tap doesn't have to have or be anything other than untapped prior to your tapping it.

Tapping a permanent doesn't change anything else about that permanent. All of its abilities—static, activated, and triggered— still function normally. Some things, such as attacking or activating a tap ability, do require the permanent to be untapped in order to take that action, but triggered abilities will still trigger regardless of whether the source is tapped or untapped.
