Can I put down a land after casting cards with suspend?

Asked by BubbleMahn 9 years ago

I've wondered, after removing the last time counter from a spell with suspend (i.e. Lotus Bloom , Rift Bolt ) and casting it on my upkeep, regardless of it resolving or not, can I put down a land during my first main phase of that turn? Would I have to wait until my second main phase to put down a land?

Yes. Suspend and playing lands are completely unrelated to one another.

To further that point, Land plays are not dependent on if you played any other cards. You're (normally) allowed one land play per turn, on either of your main phases, but it doesn't have to be the first play of that phase. You can cast spells before or after your land play (or both, or neither).

So for example, on Main Phase 1 I could cast a Lightning Bolt , then put down a land right after?

Well, you would need to wait for the Lightning Bolt to resolve or otherwise leave the stack. You can only play a land card as a turn-based action if it's your main phase, you have priority, and the stack is empty.

That's why suspend has no interaction with land plays. Suspend triggers during the upkeep, when you can't play land cards anyway.
