Can I double bolt a creature?

Asked by Kjartan 9 years ago

I target Grave Titan with a Lightning Bolt. Lightning bolt resolves effectively dealing the tian 3 damage. Can I now cast a second lightning bolt to finish it off?

To give you a bit more information about how this works: Damage is marked on a creature until the cleanup step (at the very end of a turn), or until it's regenerated.

Cool, I just heard something about that damage didn't stack anymore, and got strangely unsure wether or not it was because it used to go on the stack and resolve as a part of it, which I do not anymore, or if you could't kill something with damage fom different sauces anymore.

What you heard had to do with a change in the rules for combat damage, not spell or abilities.

There used to be a point in-between assigning combat damage and dealing combat damage when players got priority to make responses, most commonly known as "damage on the stack". It was originally introduced in the huge 6th Edition rules update to help account for changes in the damage prevention rules, but had a side effect of seriously changing the strength and functionality of hundreds of cards and several mechanics. The M10 rules update took "damage on the stack" back out of the rules and introduced the concept of "damage assignment order".

Rhadamanthus, the other thing to note about 'Damage on the stack' being introduced in the 6th ed rules update, was that prior to the update, the Stack didn't exist at all.

Yes, but I just wanted to stick to the information most relevant to this situation.
