Can Dromoka's Command target itself?

Asked by Korombos 9 years ago

In a field with only land and a Banishing Light can I cast Dromoka's Command naming itself with its first mode and my opponent (whose only enchantment is banishing light0 with its second mode?

(This may have cost me a game yesterday if the answer is 'yes.' I only just thought of it.)

You can't have any spell target itself, because you need to announce targets while casting the spell, at which time it's not yet on the stack to be announced as a target.

BlueScope That's not quite right. The spell is put onto the stack before targets are declared and before anything happens. However there is a rule that says that a spell cannot target itself. So Dromoka's Command cannot target itself, sorry.
