Can Day's Undoing get bought back?

Asked by ABadMagicPlayer100 8 years ago

If I have a Soulfire Grand Master (or other card that can grant a Buyback-esque effect), if I buy back Day's Undoing, will Day's Undoing go to exile, then my hand, or to my hand, then exile? In other words, do I get to keep it, or is this a nonbo?

no, Day's Undoing exiles itself before the delayed ability has a chance to resolve. Also, Soulfire Grand Master's ability returns it to your hand instead of the graveyard, Day's Undoing never would go to the graveyard, so the replacement effect would not work anyway.

Note that nothing here is a delayed ability. Soulfire Grand Master's activated ability creates a replacement effect that applies to the next instant or sorcery you cast this turn. Even if the ability were to create a delayed triggered ability, the DTA would trigger when you cast your spell and would therefore resolve first.

Not that it matters. Day's Undoing exiles itself before the replacement effect would apply, and it wouldn't go to the graveyard to begin with.

Why would Day's Undoing Exile itself? upon resolution it would be put into the graveyard like any other spell right?, for its effects to happen it would have to finish resolving , and the card doesn't state "...exile Day's Undoing..." anywhere on the card. Can you explain this one to me?

@kylarbandurzo, reminder text for ending the turn: "Exile all spells on the stack, including this card").
