Can Cackling Counterpart (or similar) be used to copy token creatures?

Asked by BizzareCAD 3 years ago

Im currently working on an "Infinite Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger " Deck.. My premise is.. i do what i can to get Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger out, and follow up by attaching Helm of the Host to him.. Next turn assuming he is alive, i move to combat and Helm of the Host does its thing and creates a non Legendary token creature of Ulamog (Which doesnt get exiled by the way, hence why i think this might work)..

Back to the question at hand.. If i use a Cackling Counterpart , Mirrorpool , or Mirage Mirror (... ect.), am i allowed to copy the token'd version of Ulamog?

Yes, that will work.

If an effect isn't allowed to target or otherwise work with a certain kind of object, it will make that clear somewhere in the text. For example: Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker can't target legendary creatures, and Identity Thief can't target token creatures. The examples you name can be used to copy any creature, even token ones.

Also since Helm of the Host specifies the tokens are nonlegendary, you can make token copies of those nonlegendary tokens and still keep all of them since they are nonlegendary.
