Boros Reckoner Damaged By Anger of The Gods

Asked by Sabbath91 9 years ago

If someone plays Anger of the Gods and it causes enough damage to a Boros Reckoner to destroy it, does the Boros Reckoner still deal 3 damage or does it not since it is in exile?

Boros Reckoner is dealt damage, which causes its ability to trigger. Before the ability is put onto the stack, state-based actions attempt to destroy Boros Reckoner , but Boros Reckoner is sent to exile instead because of Anger of the Gods 's replacement effect. Then, Boros Reckoner 's ability is put onto the stack.

Once on the stack, an ability exists independently of its source. Removing the source will not counter the ability or otherwise remove it from the stack. It will still resolve. Boros Reckoner 's ability will still deal damage.

Boros Reckoner will be dealt damage by Anger of the Gods , and it will be removed from the game by virtue of the effect of Anger of the Gods , however, the Reckoner's ability is still triggered from it being dealt damage. This places a trigger on the stack that you can use to deal three damage to a legal target. Even if the source of an ability is removed from play, abilities become independent of their sources when they hit the stack, and you can deal 3 damage to something with the Reckoner.
