Bloom tender tapped effects

Asked by Mairon_Bauglir 7 years ago

Hello, I was wondering about how Bloom Tender tapped effect works and how tapped works in general. Once a creature becomes tapped, it stays tapped for the rest of the turn and you can't tap it again, but that isn't the issue. Once the effect has activated, does it only activate instantaneously and it doesn't continue to apply itself? For example, if I tapped my Bloom Tenderand had three mana, I then play something like Predator Ooze I'm assuming I'm playing it then like I spent 3 mana, and gained 3 mana from the predator ooze, so I essentially stayed at equilibrium with mana, but then I play Deadly Recluse which spends 2 mana and only adds 1 reducing the mana pool to 2 mana. Is this the correct way to play this card, Bloom Tender or this incorrect? I would appreciate advice on this point.

No Bloom Tender activates instantly when tapped and will only add mana to your pool based on the colors you have available when it is tapped. You may generate at most 5 mana, one of each color, when the card is tapped. Spending this mana on more permanents will not add more mana to your pool.

I get the impression there's another misunderstanding of how Bloom Tender works here. Bloom tender just counts colors, not the total number of colored mana symbols. The maximum amount of mana you can get from a Bloom Tender is 5, specifically . For an example of an effect that does count colored mana symbols, see Karametra's Acolyte.

A mana ability (an ability that makes mana and has some other specific qualities that aren't important here) just adds mana to your mana pool once: when the ability resolves. When you activate Bloom Tender you get whatever amount/colors of mana you're supposed to get at that time. If something happens later in the turn to change the number of colors among permanents you control, the game doesn't back up and change the result of Bloom Tender's ability.

In general, any activated ability (written as "cost : effect", like Bloom Tender) or triggered ability (written to start with the word "when", "whenever", or "at", like the 2nd and 3rd abilities on Predator Ooze) just has its effect at the time it resolves, and changes in the game state after that point won't retroactively change the effect.

Double post: when I said instantly that is not entirely true, the ability goes onto the stack and can be interacted with via cards like Stifle

Mana abilities resolve immediately after they're activated or triggered. No one is given priority to make a response.
