"Beginning of Upkeep" timing w/ Sheoldred

Asked by carpecanum 8 years ago

Sheoldred, Whispering One is out and i make a Clone of it. when my next turn comes around can I put a creature from my graveyard into play (for my Sheoldred) and then sac that same creature (form the original Sheoldred). I was told timing forced me to sac my cloned Sheoldred even though I still got to put a creature into play for having the clone out.

When multiple triggered abilities go on the stack at the same time that aren't controlled by the same player they go on the stack according to APNAP, Active Player Non-Active Player, in turn order.

It's your turn, you're active player so your triggers go on first, then your opponent's triggers will go on the stack. Being the topmost effect on the stack, your opponent's trigger will resolve first and you will be made to sacrifice a creature. Then your Sheoldred's trigger will resolve, allowing you to reanimate a creature.

I should point out that in this case you would not be able to reanimate Clone because you have to declare targets for your Sheoldred's triggered ability when it goes on the stack, and at that point you have not yet sacrificed the Clone-Sheoldred.
