Basic question about Threaten effects

Asked by Lurac 8 years ago

If my opponent happens to control a creature I own, and I play Act of Treason or a similar effect, who retains control of it after the effect ends? The owner (me) or the former controller?

I need to know this, because I play Perplexing Chimera in my new Yasova Dragonclaw EDH deck, and I don't know how they interact.

Act of Treason's effect lasts only until end of turn. After it's up, the creature will return to the control of whoever has the next newest control effect over it.

If your opponent came to control a card you own, then control would return to your opponent unless whatever control effect he or she had also ended before or at the same time as Act of Treason's effect ended. That's not the case here, so your opponent gets your card again.

Thank you. It's not the way I hoped, but it makes sense.
