Assist Question

Asked by SquirrelPenguin 3 years ago

If my opponent is willing in a two player game without teams, can they help me cast Fan Favorite?

They are another player, so they can indeed help pay the cost.

Cards like that were actually specifically created with teammate play in mind.

Interesting question.

I think (credit due to Raging_Squiggle for beating me to it) that since the text of the Assist mechanic is “another player”, it isn’t limited to 3+ player games.

I’d be interested to hear why your opponent would help cast a card for you, though. Fodder for an Act of Treason??

Fan Favorite doesn't have an obvious reason for an opponent to help, but in multiplayer you may find that one opponent is more than willing to provide mana to help deal with another opponent, especially with a card like Play of the Game when they don't have nonland permanents or Game Plan when they don't have cards in hand.

SquirrelPenguin: Answers to your question have been up for a while. Since there don't seem to be any follow-ups or corrections to be made, I marked one of the responses as the "Accepted answer" so that this topic can move out of the list of unanswered questions. Please remember to take care of this yourself in the future.
