Arrogant Boodlord and Borderland Marauder

Asked by Tyrannosary 7 years ago

How would this work? Would Borderland Marauders starting power allow it to kill Arrogant Bloodlord or does its ability prevent it from killing it?

No it wouldn't work that way.

Once Borderland Marauder is declared as an attacker (in the declare attacker step) its ability triggers, giving it +2/+0. This makes it a 3/2 until end of turn.

Then, the declare blockers step comes, where Arrogant Bloodlord is declared as a blocker. It checks the power of the blocked creature and sees it has a power of 3. Its ability does not trigger.

If Arrogant Bloodlord's ability said "blocks...a creature with base power 1 or less..." Then it would work this way because when checked base power or toughness, it looks at what's printed on the card itself. (Or any defining abilities i.e. Eldrazi Mimic).

Borderland Marauder's ability is triggered when he is declared an attacker. By the time blocking is being assigned, Arrogant Bloodlord sees the Marauder as a 3/2.

If the Marauder blocks the Bloodlord, the Bloodlord sees a 1/2 creature and the condition of his trigger is met.
