Are snow basic lands Standard Legal to use?

Asked by smackder 9 years ago

I thought that lands such as Snow-Covered Island would not be standard legal, but since that this deck Islands says 'This deck is Standard legal.' I'm starting to think otherwise? Whats the verdict?

The site is NOT the place to check legality. The only place for legality checks is Gatherer (gatherer.wizards.com). Snow lands are a far cry from legal in standard (10 years ago at least was when they were last legal).

Also, what would you use the snow lands for anyways?

Snow lands are pretty much used for EDH with Extraplanar Lens or in Legacy for Gifts Ungiven and not much else.

A given card is legal in a format if:

  • A card with that exact English name was printed in an expansion set legal in the format
  • The card isn't on the Ban list for the format

Snow-Covered Island and friends aren't legal in Standard. The TappedOut database is assembled and maintained by users, so it has some mistakes, some of them related to format legality. Use these lists as the official reference for legality (but for Commander specifically use this website instead).
