Archangel of Thune + Pollenbright Wings + Essence Warden

Asked by uth_matar 9 years ago

Archangel of Thune has Pollenbright Wings and Armadillo Cloak on it and it deals combat damage. I also have Essence Warden in play.

What size are the created Saproling tokens?

lifelink does not use the stack. The rest of the answer depends on how you stack the triggered abilities.

If you put the cloaks second life gain ability first, then the pollenbright's token ability on the stack, the tokens resolve first, then the life gain. So they would 1/1's with a singe +1/+1 counter on them making them essentially 2/2's

If you stack the abilities wings then cloak, you would gain life, then make tokens so they would only be 1/1's.

It depends. The triggered abilities (the ones that start with "whenever") on Archangel, Wings, and Cloak all trigger at the same time. Since you control them, you can put them onto the stack in any order. You maximize the number of counters on your saprolings by having the Wings trigger resolve first.

  • Current order on the stack from top to bottom is Pollenbright Wings , Armadillo Cloak , Archangel of Thune
  • The Wings trigger resolves and creates 5 saprolings (I assume Archangel doesn't yet have any counters). This causes Essence Warden to trigger 5 times.
  • As each Warden trigger resolves, it triggers Archangel again. After this part is dealt with, your saprolings have 5 +1/+1 counters.
  • The Cloak trigger finally resolves, and it triggers Archangel again. After this part is dealt with, your saprolings get another counter, for a total of 6.
  • The original Archangel trigger finally resolves. Your saprolings get another counter, for a total of 7. They're currently 8/8s

sorry, he is right, I forgot to that all three would trigger at the same time, and forgot about the essence warden...my bad.

You control every trigger from the combat damage (including the +1/+1 counter trigger from Archangel of Thune , because of lifelink), so you get to control how they enter the stack.

If you want the biggest creatures possible, you'd put the Archangel trigger on the stack first, the Armadillo Cloak trigger (whenever it deals damage, gain life) second, then the Pollenbright Wings trigger.

The stack resolves in Last In, First Out order, so the first thing to resolve would be the Wings trigger. You'd get 6 Saprolings, which would trigger Essence Warden six times. Each of those resolutions would trigger Archangel of Thune 's +1/+1 counter trigger, so we've got 6 counters on your Saprolings so far.

Then the Cloak would resolve, you'd gain life, the Archangel would give your creatures another counter (7 total). Then, the original Archangel trigger would resolve, giving your Saprolings their eighth and final counter.

In short, you'd have six 9/9 Saprolings.

Ninja'd. Also, I'm wrong; Rhadamanthus is right. I thought the Archangel had 4 power, not 3.
