Ao, the Dawn Sky death ability

With Ao, the Dawn Sky first death ability do you get to play 7 cards potentially if they are all 4 mana or less, or is it just a collective mana value of up to four between cards.
If you have zero-cost or uncosted permanents like Memnite, Mox Amber, Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar, etc, they don't add anything, so you could theoretically get all seven cards if you flipped the right ones.

Great question! Total mana refers to the combined mana cost of all of the permanents. You can see similar language on Protean Hulk, and I'll confess I misinterpreted that early in playing that card. If it lacked the word "total" and was otherwise phrased a differently, such as referring to each permanent, then it would refer to individual cmc.
