Act on Impulse

Asked by wolfdwarf 7 years ago

If I cast a sorcery or instant exiled with Act on Impulse would it go to the graveyard or stay in exile?

Casting spells always follows the normal procedures, which are putting it from the zone it's in onto the stack, and in the graveyard after it resolves. Some spells, such as Expropriate, will exile themselves as part of their resolution, in which case they won't go to the graveyard - this is entirely independant from how you cast them. Other cards, like Isochron Scepter, will cast a copy of the card, which doesn't remain in the graveyard. Finally, some spells (like Spelltwine will cast cards, then exile them as part of it's effect).

Spells cast with Act on Impulse will resolve normally, as it doesn't create any replacement effects on the spell after you cast them. For permanent spells, this means they will be put onto the battlefield. For instant and sorcery spells that are still on the stack when they resolve, this means they will be put into the graveyard. For instant and sorcery spells that remove themselves from the stack during their resolution (such as Expropriate or Blue Sun's Zenith), they will still go to their appropriate zone. Countered spells of any type will go to the graveyard unless the counter directs them to a different zone (such as Remand or Void Shatter).
