WAR possible standard infinite combo on turn 5?

So, with WAR coming out soon, there is an unofficial spoiler of Ral Zarek.

Supposedly, his static ability is "Whenever you cast or copy a spell, Ral Zarek deals 1 damage to an opponent." His cost is rumored to be .

Thus the combo revolves around using 2 Expansion / Explosion and any other instant or sorcery card. You cast the first expansion to copy the instant or sorcery, then cast the second expansion to copy the first. Then, you keep chaining copies infinitely.

So, you could theoritically go t4 Ral into t5 Opt + 2x Explosion and win on the opponents turn.

Supposing these are real cards, do you think this is the second coming of Saheeli Cat Combo?

No. The combo is a three card combo that can’t happen until the turn after Saheeli cat. not only is it a three card combo but two of the cards are the same card making it even more difficult to find. The only thing that makes the deck be a possibility of being ok is that the cards naturally fit into a control shell and are pretty good by themselves

I agree to a degree - the combo is wonkier, but what you trade in less cards to combo, you gain in utility - both Ral and Explosion are better standalone cards that are useful outside of the combo.

The shell is still only 8 cards in the deck and you can have reducndancy - Doublecast can be used for the first piece, while Niv-Mizzet, Parun can substitute for Ral or be an alternate win con.

I personally think it has legs in standard - it may not be as powerful as Saheeli Cat, but there is some potential. I will be tring it out in Arena for sure.

Another consideration is that if you -2 Ral, then an opponent casts an instant/sorcery on your turn (settle, opt, shock, who knows), you can use a single Expansion to win on the spot.

I would advise against building this regardless, Wizards might do what they did the last time and ban the combo shortly after deciding not to ban it.

Of course it’s up to you, but seems like a good way to waste some money, since Wizards does not want infinite combo in standard.

It's not that Wizards doesn't want infinite combos in standard, they really don't want decks winning before t4 consistently, which it looks like this version of the deck doesn't under normal circumstances. Even if you played Llanowar Elves t1 you still only win t4 at the earliest, so it's probably better.

Also, Damping Sphere is a thing that can slow things down.

I suppose so, but I would argue that a instant win combo is much too toxic for the format, which is supposed to be slow, and fair.

While it certainly isn’t fast, it is not very fair in a format like this.

However, I don’t play standard so i could just be wrong. So basically, I am just saying that build this with caution since you could find the combo banned.

Another possibility is to just throw the Rals into the current Temur Reclamation deck, as you get Growth Spiral for ramp and you already run both Opt and Expansion. I think the new Ral just makes Temur Reclamation win more.
