Would you mind if I tagged an old deck, my werewolf deck from original innistrad?

March 26, 2016 1:11 p.m.

clayperce says... #5

Pethrax,
Not at all! You probably learned a lot of lessons the hard way with that deck, and I truly appreciate anything you can share with me and other newer Werewolf players!

NotSquishedYet says... #6

I don't have anything wolven, but I'd like to see if a couple of my decks provide those tough matchups. :P I'll try to get SOI-legal lists up, and brew something new on the way.

Cool! I just made a Werewolf Tribal deck this morning. Haven't had the time to really work on it 100% cause I'm at work and phones suck for this. Check it out;

Oh, that'd be great! I'd really like to get a good Gauntlet going ...

I think I've already got a rotation-proof R/W Equipment deck that, upon testing, seems hellishly powerful and easily capable of winning turn 4-6. I'll put it up.

March 26, 2016 1:46 p.m.

I'm a lurker. :) But if anyone wants to use anything I've built to playset with or against, be my guest. I'll take everything off of private in a sec.

March 26, 2016 1:58 p.m.

Alright. Got the equipment decklist up. Here it is for anyone who wants to test:

NotSquishedYet,

I'll test it out when I get home tonight with my (Gruul) Werewolf Tribal deck. Thanks for the upload!

If you want to test against control, I have a (sort of) control deck, but it's not exactly traditional control... I have a feeling it will get god stomped by werewolves, but here it is anyway:

AverageBoss says... #19

I am working on a themed Werewolf deck. Currently sitting at 42 cards (as of this writing).

SOI Werewolves Deck

I will certainly add 4x Moonlight Hunt as in theme removal.

Possibly a couple Rabid Bite, but it is significantly less potent (unless I have only one creature out).

The biggest challenge will be deciding between the 3 drop werewolves.

Silverfur Partisan

Breakneck Rider / Neck Breaker

Hermit of the Natterknolls / Lone Wolf of the Natterknolls

Geier Reach Bandit / Vildin Pack Alpha

all bring something different. Thanks to Krallenhorde Howler I would probably feel comfortable running 10 of the 3 drops as long as I keep almost everything else 1-2.

Might also consider Skin Invasion / Skin Shedder, Big dogs probably have big fleas, and it could help supplement my lack of one drops.

What do you guys think?

March 26, 2016 3:34 p.m.

Axinoim says... #20

AverageBoss,

I think you just showed me a few cards I'll be putting into my deck build! Thanks for the share!

IMO, I like the Hermit. It'll make your oppent think twice before casting that instant.

March 26, 2016 3:42 p.m.

Pethrax says... #21

R/G Werewolves

This is my old standard deck from original Innistrad. As you can see, mainly put creatures out, waited a turn or if lucky, the opponent didn't cast anything, and then swung for the kill, as the flip sides of these guys were killer.

March 26, 2016 3:58 p.m.

Since most of the cards in this deck are spoiled a few posts above I'm not going to worry about posting pics. Except Rush of Adrenaline and Cryptolith Rite

4x Cryptolith Rite4x Vessel of Volatility 2x Vessel of Nascency

Axinoim says... #24

Silverfur Partisan + Line Wolf of Natterknolls I think go great together. Other player burn down one of your werewolf it's no problem. You'll get 2/2 wolf token and get to draw 2 cards. GG

March 26, 2016 4:29 p.m.

Oh yes. Ask clayperce if you need; Cryptolith Rite is worth running, and lets you splash for Always Watching to supplement it.

March 26, 2016 4:33 p.m.

wasianpower says... #26

I think it's worth nothing that this deck should run several instants so you can transform your werewolves but still use your mana effectively.

March 26, 2016 4:42 p.m.

Pethrax says... #27

Instants are a dual edged sword though. If an opponent is able to play 2 spells, or if you play 2 instants on their turn, you just wasted your last turn because they all flip right back. Werewolves are a hard tribal to play, because you have to balance your setup with aggression, tempo, and timing of when to force a transformation.

March 26, 2016 5:01 p.m.

flyingthing says... #28

Is Sin Prodder worth running in werewolves? It takes up the 3 slot where you'd play a few other werewolves, but the burn/ card advantage seems worth it.

March 26, 2016 5:31 p.m.

Pethrax says... #29

If you are planning on midrange werewolves, possibly, you would just need to be extremely careful of your mana base and timing when playing it. Too soon and you opponent will be able to potentially mana screw you, or in the case of the new u/b reanimated deck, set up a huge swing back by taking a hit from your bomb being flipped of Sin Prodder and then stealing it

March 26, 2016 6:20 p.m.

Censuring says... #30

If anyone could test it out against the control deck i brewed seems good. R/G wolves will be a thing and id like a good gameplan and vice versa I'm sure

I think a creature heavy werewolf deck with Collected Company could also work quite well, as all their best stuff is cost 3 and below. Not something I am personally interested in, just throwing it out there.

focusing on the card Collected Company and as AverageBoss mentioned; lots of the best werewolves are under 3 cmc. Work in progress, i think the deck needs another aggressive 1 drop to truly make it an aggro CoCo build. Suggestions welcome, im thinking that Falkenrath Gorger might suit as a 2 or 3 of, to make up 1 drop numbers.

March 26, 2016 10:33 p.m.

Falkenrath Gorger... Now that's an interesting idea. One thing I like to do is play mind games with my opponent. Often, I give them hard choices like Citadel Castellan where unlike Sylvan Advocate you get that whispering voice in the back of your head that "you could have prevented it and lived....

Why not make them think you're running Jund Vampires and throw their minds and game plans to hell with a good one-drop, even if you won't use it?

March 26, 2016 10:40 p.m.

Pethrax says... #34

Kizmetto, other one drops are- Goblin Glory Chaser, Dragonmaster Outcast, Lightning Berserker, Honored Heirarch. I give them all a bit of a boost over the vamp as they actually give value you can use.

March 26, 2016 10:54 p.m.

Pethrax says... #35

B/W tokens

Try this as an enemy to werewolves.

March 26, 2016 10:57 p.m.

AverageBoss says... #36

Insolent Neonate could be another viable 1 drop for you. Sneaks in a bit of damage then blow him up and a card your not using for a new card.

March 26, 2016 11:01 p.m.

Kizmetto says... #37

NotSquishedYet mind games IS alot of fun, even holding up some mana and flicking your cards is such a great trick.

Falkenrath Gorger people do see this and think vampire tribal immediately, i see it as a 2/1 for R with no downside. Great aggro card!

March 26, 2016 11:02 p.m.

Kizmetto says... #38

Pethrax ooh, i didnt even consider Dragonmaster Outcast which could give me some lategame advantage! I do like this, as well as Lightning Berserker i could punch in extra damage with its firebreathing. Thank you, i think they are better than Falkenrath Gorger in the CoCo shell.

AverageBoss he's not bad either, since Collected Company wants creatures, the creatures that can create advantage are highly valued, like this guy. and in red too! he's a serious candidate for the extra 1-drops, thanks! i didn't even see him.

March 26, 2016 11:05 p.m.

Here's what we do: Swap the mind games FOR the Outcast! XD Screw around with their head even more, and keep the bomb game running.

I really do love Geier Reach Bandit and Hermit of the Natterknolls for control?

Axinoim says... #43

Does anyone have a good idea on a side board for a full werewolf deck?

March 27, 2016 3:21 a.m.

The idea being passed around right now seems to be a confusing-as-hell midrange build to board in game one and pop the super-combo game two when it's least expected.

March 27, 2016 4:30 a.m.

Kizmetto says... #45

i've got a very generic sideboard because im not sure what the meta will be, but it has Hermit of the Natterknolls in the SB for control match ups. And moonlight hunt also in the sideboard for decks that have one or two main creatures.

March 27, 2016 5:35 a.m.

I'm planning to build a Gruul Wolves deck using only creatures from the Innistrad block and the Shadows Over Innistrad block. It's gonna be epic. >:-D

March 27, 2016 9:37 a.m.

clayperce says... #47

To add to the sideboard discussion:

Flyerhate. Not sure yet if it should he MB or SB, but we absolutely are going to need some Flyerhate. For spells, I like Vines of the Recluse but Atarka's Command is awesome as it's always been too. Not sure what Creature is best.

I've found Dragonmaster Outcast to be nearly useless except for a way to soak up removal. But precisely because of that, I think it may have a place in the combo deck: To eat removal before dropping Zada ...

A way to hate on Creatures with Flying.

Like gravehate = ways to mess with decks that depend on Graveyard shenanigans, etc ...
