Check out the recently announced Secret Lair collections of alt art reprints. The cats are cute and all, but I'm particularly fond of the new Bitterblossom + these 3 terrors.

Curious to hear thoughts on this - outrageous WotC cash grab or are you pumped on this niche collector's product?

I think it's both a cash grab and a fun unique item for collectors or players who like to be different. The fact that they made the cards cost almost as much their normal versions, shows they were trying to get money without risking much reprint capital.

When I first found out what it was I thought it was kinda cool and I even thought about getting 1 or 2 of them. Then I saw the one was 5 BASIC LANDS for $30. That's just such a blatant cash grab.

shadow63 only gripe I have with the lands is that they aren't full art. They are beautiful foiled SNOW lands. And with them being only available for one day, those prices on the secondary market are going to be crazy.

This is a great idea, but the prices are far too high to justify the few cards that the sets contain, and I also severely dislike the cute artwork on the cats and goblins. Even worse is that all of these cards have already been printed in the modern card frame; WotC really needs to print a greater number of pre-Eighth Edition cards in the new card frame.

Hopefully, if WotC continues this product line, future installments will contain cards that are actually in high demand.

Prof breaks it down pretty accurately here.

Yeah, the only drop I have an interest in is the Kaleidoscope one. Not only does it seem like a great value for those three cards together, but I absolutely love that artwork. Plus I was already intending on getting a copy of each of those three for commander eventually, so it seems like a good time to do so. As for the others, they seem mostly lackluster to me. The art is nice on them all, but most of the actual cards are not exactly worth the price you pay imo. The Bitterblossom one is probably the only other one that's not a bad deal for what you get, although if I had to choose personally between that and the Kaleidoscope drop, I would easily choose the latter. Otherwise, while I could question WotC on their choice of card inclusions for a lot of these drops, I know by now that questioning what WotC does leads you down an endless rabbit hole lol.

Given that these are 30 or 40 bucks prior to shipping and handling, these are outrageously priced. This is the last one in string of moves WOTC has done to screw with LGSs.

Wizards are directly selling to players, bypassing everyone else and selling single cards for 30 bucks and then turning around to say "We do not take into account the secondary market with our products" in the most blatant hypocricy.

I am infuriated by this product and I plan to support Wizards less than I was before.

For example, if you want cute artwork, SCG have been doing it for years with actual good cards This is Tasigur, Young Pyromancer and Delver of Secrets in cute animal forms.

Wizards is charging you premium prices with shipping and handling for crappy cards you can get currently at a fraction of the price.

Their alternate artwork for Dig through Time is Pig through time and it is as glorious as it sounds. I am not at all advertising SCG, but trying to do a contrast and compare with WOTC is offering.
