Secret Lair: June 2022 Superdrop

The newest Secret Lair has been announced, and I originally was not planning to even bother mention it, but it does have some excellent cards, so I am making a thread in which to discuss it, after all.

One of the cards being reprinted is Mystic Remora; yes, that is correct: WotC is finally reprinting Mystic Remora, but it is in a Secret Lair, so its price shall not decrease much, if it does, at all. Why must WotC torment the players in such a manner? Why can they not reprint much-needed cards in proper sets, so that they shall be more affordable?

On a more positive note, that new artwork for Akroma, Angel of Wrath is amazing, and, since she is my favorite creature in the entire game, I may possibly attempt to find that card as a single, at some point. The artwork used for Glissa Sunseeker would have been better for Glissa, the Traitor, in my mind. I know that other people have already pointed out this, but Queen Marchesa looks very masculine in that new artwork, and I wonder if that was deliberate or accidental? I am certainly not making any value judgments, but I did wish to ponder that occurrence.

What does everyone else here say about this new Secret Lair? Do you like it?

Personally I like the Marchesa art, it doesn't look so much masculine to me as it seem to borrow from Tudor era art such as this Elizabeth

In terms of which sets I would even consider getting, it would be the Chris Rahn, Rule the Room, or Special Guest: Kelogsloops bundles. The lands look cool and all, but a minimum of $30 for 5 basic lands is just too steep for me.

I like the Volkan Baga one mostly because of Berserk mostly because of its value and power. As far as art work I love the Tokyo lands especially the Island

All in all, I'm actually a big fan of this superdrop. For all of them, especially in regards to the foils, the value is there. I was reading a reddit thread, and it stated that the value for them using the cheapest existing foil printing is:

  • Foil Kelogsloops = $89.38 not including Mystic Remora foil.
  • Foil Rule the Room = $197.57
  • Foil Chris Rahn = $109.16
  • Foil Livia Prima = $97.37
  • Foil Volkan Baga = $273.33

I'm definitely getting the Volkan Baga and Kelogsloops ones. I run a Sythis, Harvest's Hand deck that utilizes both Utopia Sprawl and Verduran Enchantress and I still need them both in foil (~$20 and ~$60 respectively). Considering that them two cards in foil by themselves are equal to the cost of both Secret Lairs discounting shipping is 100% worth it for me imo. Plus the art on the Mystic Remora is absolutely gorgeous and I would love to have it in foil for my Oona, Queen of the Fae deck.

I haven't bought a drop since the Theros Constellation set for all 15 Gods.

But that Akroma and Elspeth. Beautiful.

Thanks for the heads up! I am definitely getting the Mystic Remora one. Can't pass up this opportunity! Been awhile since I got a secret lair.

I snap-bought all of them. I am a sucker for any of the artist feature lairs, and I love the styles and card choices for these. I couldn't find a lair in this set I was disappointed in.
