3 color cards in Ravnica

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

With the alliance between Teysa and Tajic in the return to ravnica block, I was wondering what people think the likelyhood of at some point in the new block seeing mardu colored cards is.

Are there any other combinations of guilds that seem likely if the orzhov and boros aren't the only ones that team up?

Also, do you think there is any chance of nephilim?

The guilds of ravnica trying to craft more alliances in order to gain more poitical power... seems like a intresting concept.

But How about a Selesnya and gruul alliance?

"let things be free"

"Let things grow"

So basically.. "Let things be grow big and be free = "?

Also i could see maybe a alliance between Golgari and Simic..

"let things evolve.."

"Let the dead things grow"

So maybe.. let the dead grow.... and evolve!" or "May the dead rise again and get stronger"

Some fun things to theorize, I like your idea luther

With those three, I could see Azorius and Dimir team up to make a cabal government, and Rakdos and Izzet to join forces in order to do experiments in more... Interesting ways.

Naya, Esper, Grixis, Sultai, and Mardu.

I would personally love to see Simic and Izzet team up. They’re both scientists! Simic is biology and Izzet is chemistry they could totally find some common ground

I could see either izzet or simic manipulating the gruul into test subjects.

The flavor text in Mystic Genesis is something I’ve kept an eye on since the card was printed (not long after I started Magic) - it definitely hints at the possibility

Honestly I've kinda thought about this before (like personal writing for a set).

My idea was this:

The guilds collapse during a civil war, leaving new guilds to take their place after the deaths and/or disappearance of the guild leaders.

Kai Order : The combination of the lawfullness of the Azorius, the community process of the Selesnyan and the ideas of improvement for themselves and others. They believe in law and order for the community, leading to their process of mutating themselves in order to become protectors of the city. Lavinia has joined this order in the collapse of the guilds.

The Orzus Church : Combining the need for control of the Dimir, the Azorius and the Orzhov, the Orzus Church acts as a shadow government and run many of the spy networks and black markets of the city, while hiding behind the facade of the church. Teysa has gained some standing within this organization.

Izaruu Labs : This guild finds the Rakdos need for torture, the Dimir's use of psychological torture and the Izzets need to experiment. Unlike the Izzet, the Izaruu experiment in dark places which were previously unthought of, including torture and the creation of weirds with human blood as a base. One of their experiments in mind control resulted in their most powerful agent, a reborn Melek.

The Gron : Unlike the other side guilds, the Gron are the outcasts of the Gruul, the Golgari and the Rakdos banded together. Together, they form a vicious warfaring group ready to fight always. Varolz leads their most powerful assassin group.

The Katasna Army : The Katasna are a ragtag army based on the power of the strongest, born from the warriors of the Boros and the Gruul, as well as those tired of the ideals of the Selesnyan. They're extremely strong in the use of pyromancy and elemental magic. They're belief in survival of the fittest has lead Ruric Thar to grow into a general of great power within the group.

The Demonas Mercenary : A group of mercenaries who wish for absolute freedom, including the power to break away from the traditional army ideals of the Boros, the religious ideals of the Orzhov and the control of Demons of the Rakdos. Refusing to be held down any longer, the Demonas have become extremely powerful sanguimancers and necromancers, allowing them to control their demons. One of their oddest recruits is Exava, who wanted to control the same power as Rakdos had.

The Tolis Order : A religious order of the oddest bit, they combine the religious ideals of both the Selesnya and the Orzhov. However, they worship the ability to recycle life as the Golgari had and preservation of life. Most notably, one of their high shamans is Emmara Tandris, who perfected their prayers of protection.

Nakia Spys : The Nakia are the ultimate spys, being able to break the secrets of the dead, the mind and the body. They use the Golgari's penchant for the dead and Simics study of nature to perfect the techniques of the Dimir. One of their newer agents is Mirko Vosk.

Soltan Lotus Eaters : The Soltan take the respect for nature of the Gruul and Simic to a new extreme, while some Izzet members joined to study in a new domain. They have an odd habit of eating a specific Lotus found within Gruul ruins, which supercharges their Mana. A notable member is Vorel, who used the Lotus to turn himself into a more powerful being.

The Diirol Senate : The ultimate governing order in the new Ravnica, they use both the military function of the Boros and the Azorius's law ideas. In addition, they promote the creation of new technology by ex-Izzet scientists to create better ways of protecting the freedoms of Ravnica and prevent conflict. Their hieromancy is completely uncontested, although their most useful lieutenant, Tajic, chooses to forgo hieromancy for advanced battle plans.

That's kinda where I see them going at least?

I do not think we will see three colour cards, and I think it would be a mistake if there were. Ravnica’s entire point is to give Wizards a place to explore two-colour interactions. To add three colours would drastically shift the dynamic and create assorted design issues Ravnica does not need.

Tarkir and Alara already exist to explore the wedges and shards - we do not need Ravnica to explore the same field.

As for the Nephilim, it is possible. Though, I feel the focus will be on Bolas and his planeswalkers, and there might be it be room.

I understand your point cdkime but it is a cool idea so i'm not gonna get sad if they don't do it but i'm gonna get hyped if they do that's all :)

Another theory.. We know that Bolas was in contact with Vraska on ravnica before so maybe Bolas will forge alliances inside of ravnica with other guilds to strengthen his forces..

I would not be suprised if he talked to Lazav, Dimir Mastermind because i always thought that Bolas was primarily Dimir and having a net of spies at a world we are certain that bolas will return in one of the ravnica sets seems like the logical option if he would make an alliance with.

Maybe Rakdos, Lord of Riots cause he will invade new worlds and Rakdos, Lord of Riots as the Lord of Riots would be intrigued about making mayhem on other planes.

AAaaaannndd if i wanna stretch it maybe Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius cause maybe he is interested in bolas inventions and wants to find out more about the multiverse?

or maybe a three way alliance? making the Grixis Guild in the name of his own plane ;)

sorry if i rambled a bit but i'm hyped for the idea that we will maybe get "merged guilds" maybe the will be called "Parlaments of Ravnica" now xD

If they do go ahead with tri lands my guess would be that they will be for shards, rather than the wedges of Tarkir.

However, shards are most associated with Alara, so we may not see them at all in these Ravnica sets.

If we assume that the guilds that team up are spread across the first two sets but not found in a set together, we get Boros+Azorius, Dimir+Simic, Golgari+Orzhov, Izzet+Rakdos, and Selesnya+Gruul as a possible arrangement, resulting in two shards (Grixis and Naya) and three wedges (Jeskai, Sultai, and Abzan).
