I think that we can all agree that recently standard has become 100% dumpster fire ever since aether revolt. However I do see some progress in that certain decks are getting beaten (atleast at local meta).

However this is going to be about one of your favorite times that you had played standard. This can be as recent as now all the way back to ice age or whenever standard started lol.

I had my favorite time right around when eldritch moon came out. Although people didn't seem to like u/w spirits, delirium, and other decks, I found that the deck I played was pretty strong against them.

guess i'll get the ball rollin here. which is actually kinda ironic considering i disagree with you about standard being a "dumpster fire". vehicle and energy decks are fine imo, so i see no reason to hate on Aether Revolt. disliking the Amonkhet block and The Scarab God would be a bit more understandable. but still not a dumpster fire.

personally, i've had the most standard fun with ixalan and dinos. i run a RGB midrange build.

While I hate having to tell you that you are wrong...well you are wrong.

Maybe your lgs or wherever you played was lucky to not have this but when aether revolt came out, atleast half the decks people brought were energy. There was simic energy, gruul energy, temur energy, and a 4 color energy deck. The fact that you could play 4 colors in standard and have a reliant deck is broken enough already.

So since they had the most powerful deck in standard, they spent the next 3 sets (amonkhet, hou, and ixalan) trying to power down standard. The problem was people already had their $700 decks or whatever and didn't want to get new ones. amonkhet never sold, hou never sold, and ixalan barely made it thanks to tribal. Another thing to note was that approach of the second sun also trashed standard. u/w or jeskai approach decks dominated along with ramunap red later and the already established energy decks.

So attendance at fnm was down, the new sets never really sold well except for the few cards that saw modern and edh play. And they had to basically ban 3 cards cause it got to good. So yea aether revolt ruined standard and hou kinda ruined it again with approach, scarab god, and others.

the "@" does not tag people. you can learn how to tag people by doing the comment tutorial. furthermore, i am not wrong actually. just because a "lot" of people use a deck, doesn't necessarily mean its "broken". you just gotta learn to be creative. idk where you get your info that the amonkhet block or ixalan "never sold", but thats just false.

you're literally operating under the assumption that "everything was broken". but if everything is broken, then nothing is broken. aether revolt may have ruined standard for "you" because "you" couldn't beat energy or afford it, but the rest of the player base either adapted to it or used it.
