Goad effects

Are there any cards in pioneer that have the same effect as goad?

plakjekaas says... #2

Why would you want to? Goaded creatures must attack if able, and attack someone else then you if able. In Pioneer, a 1v1 format, they're never able to attack someone else than you, so effectively a goaded creature in 1v1 has: this creature attacks each turn if able.

That said, chapter II of The Akroan War does this to your opponents, and Skin Invasion  Flip does it to one creature.

The OP might have a cunning plan that we can't see.

I know that I once built a deck that used Aggressive Mining to good effect.

I thought that Goad has the effect of making a creature that the opponent has attack himself/herself since it's only 1v1? The Akroan War is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm making an aikido deck if you want to help me with it:

What I mean is that I expected goad to make the player whose creatures are goaded attack the controlling players of those creatures themselves. In a 1v1 the only other player besides you is the opponent. So, I thought that goad would basically act as a 'target creature fights its owner'.

Is there any way I can make Deflecting Palm target all sources of damage so that I can use The Akroan War or Bident of Thassa so that all of their damage is reflected?

9-lives that's where the "if able" part comes into play. Since there are no opponents to attack (a creature cannot attack its controller), they have no other options--i.e. are not able--so they must attack you.

This is why Goad is only printed on multiplayer cards. If a goaded creature can attack, it has to attack:

  • a player who hasn't goaded it

If it can't attack any of those (because of Ghostly Prison for example, Goading can't make you pay the cost):

  • an opposing planeswalker

If there are none:

  • a player who goaded it

So yeah, in 1v1, if you control a planeswalker, then enchant an opponent's creature with a Shiny Impetus , that creature must attack each combat step, and must attack the planeswalker before it can attack you. All Goad-cards are printed in Conspiracy and Commander sets, so if you're playing Legacy or Vintage, that's a way to stay alive. But I'd argue there's better ways in those formats.

Is this true?

If I target just one of my Boros Reckoner , whose ability targets the opponent, with Arcbond , and then cast Thundering Rebuke on it and cast on me Deflecting Palm , it will total a whopping 12 damage to the opponent, and 4 damage to all creatures.

Not exactly, Deflecting Palm redirects the damage to the controler of the source of damage, which is you in this case.

No, plakjekaas, I just target the creature that Arcbond was cast on. :)

Ohh you're probably right. Hmmm. I'll have to target an opponent or opponent's creature.

Is this correct?

If I have just one Boros Reckoner , and cast Arcbond on an opponent's creature, and then cast Thundering Rebuke on him, and Deflecting Palm on myself with the source being the creature casted Arcbond and Thundering Rebuke on, it will total a whopping 12 damage to the opponent, and 4 damage to all creatures. The more Boros Reckoner and Brash Taunter s I have on the field, the more damage reflected.

???

Let's see:

Thundering Rebuke deals 4 damage, triggers Arcbond ; 4 damage to each creature and each player, triggering both Boros Reckoner for 4 damage to any target, and Deflecting Palm to deal 4 damage to the controller of the Arcbonded creature.

It sounds very convoluted, but I think you're right '^^

If you can make your Boros Reckoner indestructible (with Sheltering Light for example), then cast Arcbond on it, then deal it damage with Thundering Rebuke , because the Reckoner says "any target", you could repeatedly target itself with its trigger, and Arcbond will trigger over and over again, dealing 4 damage to the whole board and each player repeatedly, until you've had enough. If you also have a Brash Taunter in play, the opponent will die before you would.

I also have this combo in mind:

One Sacrifice to End:

I could use the one man army of Boros Reckoner with Gideon's Sacrifice and take an enemy's creature and cast Arcbond with Thundering Rebuke or Boros Charm or any damage dealt to it. The more creatures I have on my side, such as Sacred Cat , due to Arcbond the more easily I will deal damage to Boros Reckoner with Gideon's Sacrifice and have more damage go from him to the opponent.

Good one! I've just been using Pariah in my Boros commander deck, but Gideon's Sacrifice can be found with Sunforger , and I completely forgot about that card. Thanks for reminding me ^^

With the ability of The Akroan War , are there any cards that buff all creatures with +P but preferrably not +T? Like Rollick of Abandon but cheaper in mana cost? Or one that only targets enemy creatures?

The only thing I can find is Spatial Contortion but it only targets one creature.

Coordinated Assault , Invigorated Rampage , Nahiri's Stoneblades , and a few that care about attacking creatures, no matter who controls them, like Trumpet Blast , but you'd need to combo in combat, those won't work with The Akroan War .

But nothing that does it for all creatures your opponents control, as far as I could find.

Rollick of Abandon works perfectly. By the time I have The Akroan War on the battlefield, I will have 4 mana, which by step 2 I'll have 5 mana, which allows me to cast Rollick of Abandon . It doesn't require anyone to be attacking or blocking or controlled or whatever. Just augments strength and toughness of all creatures, which is exactly what they'll be using to kill themselves.
