Should there be a Pauper Planeswalker?

I have really enjoyed Pauper format so far, but I miss using Planeswalkers, they add so much flexibility and flavor to decks.

Am I the only one who wishes to see a Common Pauper legal Planeswalker?

What would you like to see in a Pauper Planeswalker if one were to be printed?

Not likely to ever happen. The flexibility they add is probably enough to put them at uncommom, and they are supposed to be these amazing beings that are more powerful than the common person. They can traverse the multiverse. I would honestly be a bit upset if they made a common planeswalker.

Wizards has said themselves that Planeswalkers will always be mythic rare. RIP the dream.

eyes2sky and I have actually discussed this topic in great detail a few months ago, and I was eventually going to post a topic on it myself, soon.

First, let me start by saying that neither one of us thinks it--WotC releasing a common-rarity Walker--will ever happen, nor do we think it should ever happen. If WotC made a common rarity Planeswalker, it would be so epicly screwed up that it would either be completely broken or completely unplayable. For the reasons luther said, it simply not a feasible request....

That being said, what if this were some alternate reality where WotC actually did make "Pauperwalkers?" Like maybe in this reality Alpha/Beta had Planeswalkers in it, so by now, 25 years later, we get Pauperwalkers. Or maybe they appeared in weird Commander product, who knows/cares?

So, if common-level Walkers did exist, what would they be like?

I actually, have an answer for this, and I wrote it down somewhere, lol. I will look for what we came up with and post that silliness here later.

Until then, I think we basically came up with the idea that, whereas a "normal" (mythic/rare) Walker represents a specific, "legendary" individual, a Common walker would represent a generic Walker, like you and me, the players. Thus a Pauperwalker's abilities would be much more generic and underwhelming in comparison.

Thematically, this is a very cool idea, and a very fun thought-experiment. Realistically, it's completely unreasonable, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy ourselves fantasizing about it. =D

I feel like sometimes in the lore the planeswalkers are surprised that the spark ignites and they planeswalk. So maybe, just maybe they can make a planeswalker who is "in training". For each color it could be a different type of walker. Like Red is a pyromancer initiate, White is a powerful warrior, green is a druid, blue is a tolerian trainee, and black maybe an initiate necromancer. I think for the planeswalker to be common, we would have to limit the abilities to only 2 and male sure they are not better than existing planeswalker abilities. Or, have low loyalty costs, some type of drawback that makes them a useful card but not over the top. Maybe run a set in the future with a Common planeswalker in each color.

I know it may not be likely to happen but I will keep dreaming. I know the comment about Tybalt cracked me up, thanks for making my day lol!

Personally my favorite thing about Pauper is the lack of PWs. Because there are so few "bomb" permanents that can win the game on their own, there's much more focus on trading resources and interaction. The last thing Pauper needs is a must-answer permanent type that no color can deal with except red (burn) and white (o-ring).
