Unique deck ideas?

Modern forum

So I'm building new modern decks along with my parents and some friends. We all agreed on making a 5 color deck and 1 deck each to be a different mono color. The decks will be 40 cards with no repeating cards. Does anybody have any ideas on a deck I could use that would be fun and not overly competitive?

Blue counter control deck. Basically, you can use their own decks to beat them.

Make sure to use Isochron Scepter with Counterspell for unlimited uses from a single counter (or Memory Lapse if you are just trying to be annoying).

I would pick a popular tribe for any given color...white knights/soldiers.... green elves... red goblins... black zombies... blue merfolk/illusions.

For the five color deck... maybe slivers or allies?

A 5 color 40 card decks sounds nearly impossible to balance in terms of land ratio.

But for mono color I agree with either Blue Control or a tribal deck- Black Zombies is fun and can draw a bunch of cards.

Mxnst3r well he did say modern so Counterspell is out, but Mana Leak is fine.

The only way to do 5c w/40 cards is a landbase that only plays land providing "mana of any color" and build the deck around that. So if you want City of Brass and Mana Confluence for example, you probably need some lifegain. Or you make it base green and use mana dorks.

I came up with an idea of only using cards that begin with your first initial (other than basic lands) for our playgroup. This was for commander. It is amazing how even those with the same letter can make a totally different deck. let me tell you, the "C" and "M" letters seemed to have it made in our group. C had counter spell and C.Rift. and other blue, while M had a plethora of options.

My suggestions assume that you're balancing the decks against each other vs the current tier 1 modern decks. Mono-white soldier tribal is fairly straightforward and provides a decent amount of power, mono-red could be 8-whack and mono-green stompy/devotion. Mono-black, a devotion deck or maybe 8rack. Mono-blue, maybe a more causal combo deck like Polymorph.
