Is this combo good enough for Modern?

It's a repeatable "Destroy Target Permanent' combo. I figured it might be good in Lantern Control or Blood Moon Prison. If not those maybe a janky red metalcraft deck that utilizes Galvanic Blast and Shrapnel Blast as Liquimetal Coating can be used on your own permeants giving you two artifacts, and by having it target a land your Shrapnel Blast 's drawback becomes less problematic as well.

how does making your land an artifact and then sacrificing it to Shrapnel Blast make Shrapnel Blast 's drawback less problematic? i personally wouldn't use this combo. both pieces are only useful if you have the other as well.

Yes that's the issue I see too : either card is useless alone. Now I've been brewing a lot with Coating back in the days but could never find the right balance of artifact destruction spells.

You can really go all in on the strat by playing Myr Landshaper + mana disruption cards but it's really clunky and sometimes completely useless. Also, the Myr is a 1/1 for , which obviously doesn't feel like it's Modern playable :)

Granted I never played competitively but; I think that looks like a really "nice" combo that can fit into a skred red shell.

3x Blood Moon 4x Koth of the Hammer 4x Skred

4x Shenanigans 4x Liquimetal Coating 2x Molten Rain 4x Abrade

With Snow-Covered Mountain and Scrying Sheets Leaving enough room to put in however much more sweepers like Anger of the Gods / Pyroclasm and burn you see fit?

the problem is that the combo pieces alone dont do very much, you also can destroy only one fpermanent per turn. Thats just not going to be enough to be really good

Could go green red and use Splinter

umm this combo is already been seeing play in modern, at least with war of the spark Karn doing the job of the shenanigans.

Demarge - the difference being that Karn is the combo, you don’t have to clog your deck up with the other otherwise useless piece. Karn can also do other things when the landkill strategy is unsuitable. And Karn doesn’t suck away your draw step. It’s quite a different scenario.

I agree that if you want to do liquidmetal coating in modern, Karn is the way to dk it. Trying to do it with shenanigans instead though, just ain’t gunna work

This synergy is seeing play in RG Ponza decks with the new Karn, but instead of using Shenanigans we use MD Pillage with Ancient Grudge in the SB. LMC turns pillage into Vindicate , and Karn by itself can destroy lands. Of course shenanigans works the same way, but is less maindeckable when you don't find your LMCs.

wallisface it is true karn makes it much better and should be the main source of the combo, but there are versions out there that's running 3 coating main and 1 sb, the other artifact hate should be the less common cards, like 2 mb shenanigans 4 karn

It could potentially be good enough, but just those two cards aren't a game winning combo. Either is useless by itself. Consider workshopping it and see what happens.
