do you think gruul midrange is a viable arctype

Absolutely. I've been playing Ponza for years now, and though it goes up and down in the meta (like anything), it's always at least Tier II, and always an absolute blast to play.

Gruul gets a bit looked down on because of jund

Oh, for sure, and sometimes even for good reason (I personally believe it's easier to play "optimally" than Jund is ... though of course there are some who look down on RG Just because it's MUCH less expensive).

So its a 2 mana that just draws a card nothing else against one specific match up. A deck that sees little to no play as well.

It is a viable archtype. Right now it is on an upswing while everyone else is try to outgrind each other with 'fair' companion decks. Plus there are always tron players that need to rethink their deck choice lol (I say that owning both decks).
