I went to the LGS to play Modern last night... I was playing a bad Blue Moon decklist that seriously needs adjustments/updates.... but I had a blast... placed 6th out of 9 players (epic 3 way tie for last place technically...but Ill Take it!)

Living End

  • This deck is funny... Grief ETB effects are disgusting.

Goblins

Jeskai Prowess

It really is fun... the store does a $5 entry fee and the prize is essentially 1st place gets first pick out of an assortment of draft boosters and last place gets to pick last... so there really isn't a need/drive for being super cutthroat; but the power of the decks these people are playing certainly makes me think I should step up my gameplan a little bit.... currently just still getting used to playing in person again and assessing what I can expect to see.

Yeah the first two of those 3 decks are likely top-tier competitive builds, and without a lot of know-how on how to combat them, it can be very tricky.

Prowess is normally fairly easy to dismantle provided you’re running enough interaction - just kill their creatures and its over. However this sounds like some odd burn-based variant, so maybe its not that straightforward

Living end felt the worst... I had mana open and Cryptic Command and just botched the interaction with Violent Outburst.... I'll play better next time!... during the bye I watched the goblin deck play against another/different prowess/tempo build and I was amazed at the level of trickery goblins had to survive and win..apparently goblins can gain life somehow?... the jeskai prowess deck I made the mistake of trying to get as much value from Anger of the Gods as possible and waited too long and just got smashed instead lol... another example of I'll play better next time!... all fun all GGs

Yeah, unfortunately blue moon isn’t positioned super great in the meta currently.

The important thing is if you had fun though. If so, you are still a winner no matter what the results say.

That goblin deck sounds interesting though, and I usually don’t like red decks.

I assume the goblins list will look something like this list here. The archetype has for a long time been the most-played “tribal” deck (outside of elementals, and recently usurped by Merfolk), consistently sitting between 1-4% of the meta based on mtgGoldfish. Its definitely a deck everyone should learn how to play-against, as it gets a decent amount of free-wins from its opponents making mistakes.

@IndepenentMeta I no longer have the decklist on here but it was a Blue moon homebrew... dusted off an old deck and brought it to locals which in essence looked like this:

intended to attack the opponents mana base... then bounce/burn/countermagic

my decklist didnt really have a solid Win Condition.... it had a single copy of Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and tamiyo ult with burn.... i was able to be a nuisance at times but could never really capitalize on turning to corner... best games were basically just taking a longer time to lose lol.... its no worries though!
