ZOMBIE DRAGONS but i need help

Modern Deck Help forum

Hey guys! This is my first post. I only recently have gotten in to mtg and i have been playing commander for the past 2 months. I must say, awesome game! im totally in to it.

Now on to the topic, zombie dragons. I want to make a modern deck, my friends have one so I want one aswell. I wanted to make a zombie or dragon deck and thought, why not combine the idea?

The question im asking is, is this a viable idea and/or a fun idea? The games I play with my friends are really casual, so cards like Duress I wont be playing. Maybe something with Boneyard Scourge and Bladewing's Thrall would be cool.

My friends have decks like mono green elves, burn etc. I dont have the highest budget (I recently packed Azusa, Lost but Seeking and made a mono green commander deck with her) but I can make exceptions.

So if you have any cool ideas and maybe some tips, let me know!

Welcome to Magic!

I recommend starting with the EDH decks on the Bladewing the Risen page here on T/O, and especially reaching out to some of the folks who have already built decks around it.

You may also want to check out the Bladewing page over on EDHREC.

Good luck with the build!

If you’re playing Zombie Dragons with friends there’s no reason to limit your card selection to Modern. Bladewing's Thrall isn’t a modern legal card anyway as only cards printed after Eight Edition are legal in modern, unless otherwise banned.

Bladewing the Risen and other dragons with reanimation spells like Rise from the Grave and many other options can be a fun deck. There are many ways to fill your graveyard and bring stuff back...

Oh derp ... I saw the part about playing Commander and totally missed the part about wanting to make a Modern deck (even including the fact we're in the Modern forum)! Sorry about that :-D

Brutally honest: zombie dragons is a bad idea. Modern is fast and competitive and has very strong removal spells. And spending time and mana to make dragons into Zombies is an invitation to lose.

Zombies could be a deck, at least in a meta of budget-conscious players. Dragons... I doubt that very much, at least as a tribal deck. But you could maybe make a deck around Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, if you can live with a skeleton dragon, rather than a zombie one.

I kind of thought that already, but I didnt really mean a deck full of zombiedragons. I meant more like zombies AND dragons. Skeletons are fine too, and Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon sure is cool, although quite expensive.

I'll have a look in to a more zombie based deck then. I appreciate the feedback!

Im sorry I'm of no use but I find it amusing that some one actually said "The games I play with my friends are really casual, so cards like Duress I wont be playing." When Duress is the definition of Casual Modern.

Anyway, I really like Moltensteel Dragon and think it would fit in with your game plan quite well. In fact you could throw together a fairly cheap R/B Dragon deck. You have to realize that Zombies is a fan favorite tribe and many of the pieces you want will be expensive because of that alone.
