Modern Deck Help forum

I'm a new player and i would like to ask some advices to build a control deck with a Jace planeswalker. However not being able to afford The mind sculptor version i'm asking for some advices to make a decent deck with one of the other jace cards. Of course if it is worth building a deck like that in the first place. I'm on a budget on max 100$ so of course i can't afford competitive stuff or super good decks i've find around on YouTube and other sites.

Building around Jace, Memory Adept might be your best option. Budgety, you could build a mill deck with things like Jace's Erasure and Jace's Archivist , Tome Scour , Increasing Confusion , Mind Sculpt , some draw engines and couterspells will have you having some fun. I like to use Mindshrieker equipped with a Trepanation Blade

jconeil1988 for a mill deck would you recomend a mono U or a B/U? However, my problem is that in my playgroup most of people use aggro decks and i was thinkg about a tempo deck so i could counter their moves and avoid losing by turn 3-4. I really love the idea of a mill deck and i looked at a lot of mill deck lists but i think that facing only aggro players i would never get to win a single match. Do you think that playing some counter spell could give me some chances or do you think i'd better build another kind of deck instead? Because i love control but my fear is that i would lose basically any match against aggro.

If you were to go with mill, you'd want to go UB, especially if you go up against aggro often. You might not be able to afford some of the better mill cards though, like Glimpse the Unthinkable , Archive Trap , Mesmeric Orb (if you were to spend some extra $ get those Glimpses first). Crypt Incursion , Profane Memento , Darkness , Gigadrowse , and various B removal spells ( Languish , Cry of the Carnarium , Fatal Push ) would help out your aggro matchup a lot. Hedron Crab and Manic Scribe can block if need be.

Here's an example deck for your budget: UB Jace, Memory Adept Mill

like hungry000 said UB is the better option, but on a 100 dollar budget, mono U is a good starting point.

i honestly don't see how you could build an effective Jace deck for tempo in modern. kitchen table.

what kind of aggro decks are you playing against? are they creature decks or just burn? building control for under $100 is gonna be difficult.

if its mostly creature based aggro, all you should really need is early game removal like Fatal Push or Cast Down . so you'll probably need some black in your control build.

You can't build a viable Control deck in Modern for under $100. Find a different archetype.
