I’ve been trying to build a competitive green hydra deck that takes advantage of unbound flourishing but need help with what I should cut or add and also need advice on good sideboard cards......here is what I have so far

4 genesis hydra 4 hungering hydra 4 Mistcutter hydra 4 hooded hydra 4 hydra broodmaster 4 arbor elf 4 utopia sprawl 4 unbound flourishing 4 vernal bloom 4 predator’s rapport

I have playtested this and for what I’m trying to achieve the mana ramp that I’m using works very well I just feel like I am running to many play sets of creatures and not enough support cards......also need sideboard ideas plz

next time, be sure to link the cards. or even better, add the deck to your profile and make a link to the deck.

i would recommend cutting Vernal Bloom and Predator's Rapport , adding Rosheen Meanderer , and then adding other colors to the deck. there are good hydras that are red or blue as well.

To play a deck competitively, there needs to be an upside to what you're doing compared to other decks. Making big creatures simply isn't enough. Mistcutter Hydra and Genesis Hydra are good, but I'm unconvinced by the rest. And Genesis Hydra might not actually be good because you can't put another Hydra into play with it.

Beast Within might be decent interaction.

I think your deck just gets better if you play, say, Hornet Queen instead of some of the Hydras. It's great to put into play with Genesis Hydra and it stops most aggressive decks in their tracks.

Summoner's Pact could could be great for finding the Hydra you really need to win.

Thank you guys for the comments when I first got the idea for the deck I thought of making it red and green and actually received a suggestion to splash blue with it and add Hydroid Krasis So I am considering making it a green blue unbound flourishing hydra deck but undecided

Which hydras should I take out and what should I add in there place? Cuz I’m running way to many playsets

Hydroid Krasis could actually be good. If you play Unbound Flourishing on turn 3 and Krasis on turn 4, then the x=2 becomes x=4, so for 4 mana you get a 4/4, draw 2 cards, and gain 2 life. That's pretty good. A 4/4 flying creature blocks Mantis Rider and Arclight Phoenix .

I feel that way to I believe I will change this to a green blue hydra deck.....any thoughts on what particular cards I should cut and what blue spells I should put in there place because I’ve never ran a 2 color deck to be honest and also I am running way way to many 4 of cards I feel like

The deck should remain mostly green. The biggest change is that the manabase will get expensive. Because you have cards that care about forests, the only real option is Breeding Pool and fetchlands. Windswept Heath is the cheapest fetch. Wooded Foothills comes next for green fetchlands.

Your other option is to keep the manabase as only forests, but add Birds of Paradise and Fertile Ground . Then you have 12 ways to make blue mana, which is plenty. And a lot cheaper.

I love that idea of keeping the green lands I didn’t think of that....do u think I should run a playsets of the hydroid krasis

I think so, but I recommend a bunch of testing to find out.

If you add Fertile Ground , then I'd also consider playing Garruk Wildspeaker instead of Vernal Bloom . Garruk will make just as much mana, will make it sooner, and can make wolves when you're in a pinch.

Going back to the idea of an RG deck, check out SaffronOlive's XXX Stompy deck. It seems like a perfect home for Unbound Flourishing .

That’s perfect! I’ll just swap out blood moon for unbound flourishing and go with a cheaper land base

So anywhere that isnt the stack, x=0. SO fatal push is going just wreck the deck. on top of that you need to ramp. Hyrda loses to removal. That need to play with lots of protection cards.

Actually speaking of x spells I have a question about unbound flourishing is does that effect the casting cost of ghalta? Like if I have a total power of 5 which makes ghalta cost 5 less mana does the 5 double because of unbound flourishing? Cuz x is in ghalta ability?

June 23, 2019 10:30 p.m.

No. Unbound Flourishing does 3 things. First, it doubles x in permanent spells with x in the casting cost. Secondly, if you cast an x instant or sorcery, it copies the card. Finally, if you activate an ability with x in it, it copies the ability.

Ghalta's casting cost does not have an x in it. Its cost is reduced by x, but its casting cost does not have an x in it, which is what matters.

So as far as instants and sorceries if I cast a banefire for 6 damage and unbound flourishing is on the board and it gets copied does the 6 damage I paid for banefire get copied as well or is x treated as 0 for the copy?

June 23, 2019 11:20 p.m.

x stays the same for the copy. So you'll get 6 damage from each Banefire.

Dolphins1988,
There are a bunch of edge-case rulings for Unbound Flourishing ... if you haven't already done so, I recommend checking out the card's Gatherer page.

E.g., one that hasn't been mentioned yet is how the effects stack if you have more than one on the battlefield:

If you control two Unbound Flourishings, the value of X for permanent spells will be multiplied by four. If you control three, it will be multiplied by eight, and so on. On the other hand, spells and abilities that include Variable Colorless will only be copied twice if you control two Unbound Flourishings, three times if you control three, and so on.
