Hey all, for some time now, I've been interested in building a modern miracles deck, but could never quite figure out how to completely do it since we don't have the top deck manipulation that they do in legacy, with the printing of Nissa, Steward of Elements and Opt being printed in modern, i think it's finally time to revisit the idea, any thoughts or suggestions, please leave them and let's try and put this together

Well I think the other piece to this puzzle we need to first address is the application of Monastery Mentor in modern, a card that has had an impact in every format accept modern to date really. With the lack of "good" counters in modern we need to look to other aspects, specifically cantrips, we have Opt, Sleight of Hand, and Serum Visions to start us off, but we also need some additional payoffs in addition to the miracles, maybe Thing in the Ice  Flip or even Delver of Secrets  Flip.

I really like Reclaim and Noxious Revival in miracles, just put miracled cards back on top and miracle again

I really want mentor to be good in modern but unfortunately I don't think it can, also the only creatures I really want to are Noble hierarchs for the mana fixing, being aggressive and the flipping a terminus could hurt you more than an opponent

legacy has survived the loss of Sensei's Divining Top with Soothsaying so it may be possible for modern to have some semblance of a miracles deck.

maybe something along the lines of a lantern shell? Miracle of Lanterns might be a good starting point.

Already some good ideas suggested, but another I was thinking besides Opt of course that you already mentioned is maybe the scry lands, of Temple of Plenty, Temple of Enlightenment and Temple of Mystery?

Then I have to agree on the earlier suggestion of Thing in the Ice  Flip which I also feel is worth consideration.

Its worth testing, it's just one of those feels bad mans when you spend all your time flipping your thing in the ice and then have to terminus it away

I found this miracles deck by chance from the user Mr.Mirage anyways. Who knows maybe he might be able to give you a few more ideas here for a bant list?

I don't think you'd intentionally play Terminus and Thing alongside each other. Terminus versus swarm aggro like 8-whack and Elves, Thing against more midrangy matchups. You don't have to cast Terminus at any rate; you could just scry it away. For Terminus wins, make PW ultimates your win condition, probably.

I also think Rhox War Monk could be really strong, mainboard if I'm on the tempo plan, not many just maybe a 2 of?

Well if no one else mentions it i will...
Scry effects tend to only reach the shallow top of the deck in modern, while cards that don't allow you to "put on the bottom of your library" di a lot deeper.
Cards like Index, Sage of Epityr are both pretty good cards.
They are as good as scrying, if you have a good number of fetch lands in the deck since you will get what you need from your stacked deck, then shuffle away the rest - the drawback is that too much fetch lands will make you trade between shuffling away wanted cards or playing lands on curve.

Is there a reason why no one mentions Counterbalance?
We have SOME pseudo Sensei's Divining Tops, like Crystal Ball, Hedron Alignment, Riddleform, Darksteel Pendant, Seer's Lantern, Descendant of Soramaro. Its worth it if we are able to float a 1 and a 2 cmc card on the top 3. that allows countering most removal and hate cards (not to mention dealing with stuff like affinity) - and wins counter wars by countering the cheap counters the opponent plays.

In my humble opinion Crystal Ball > Nissa, Steward of Elements, since it allows tinkering with the library at instant speed, thus facilitates Counterbalance.

And any and all instant speed scry AND DRAW effects are really potent with miracles - cards like Condescend are worth casting for X=0
