Did Saffi Eriksdotter really die?

In the flavortext of Saffi Eriksdotter, it mentions that she strode from deep snow to dusty waste, and that a crease of light was behind her.

To me, that sounds like she planeswalked.

I do not know the story or the lore behind her; I am merely going off of flavor text. To me, it sounds like she accidentally planeswalked away with her brother, Hans Eriksson was the one who was left behind and killed by the Lhurgoyf - despite it saying that the flavortext of this card was her "last words".

She dies at least 3 times any time I play her. Such is the cost of having an ability that sacrifices herself. Tell you what though, I don't think my heart could handle if they ever gave a similar ability to a dog. Could you imagine if Selfless Savior wasn't just a vanilla 1/1?

As far as I know, the answer to that is ???.

I haven't read the original Will McDermott story, but looking at synopses it sounds like in the original timeline,

Meanwhile, in the Time Spiral timeline,

Saffi, the Selfless

Legendary Planeswalker - Saffi

If a creature you control would die, you may instead remove a loyalty counter from Saffi, the Selfless. If you do, return that creature to your hand.

+1 Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control and tap it. That creature phases out.

-6 Put a shield counter on each creature you control. Create an emblem with "creatures you control have persist". Exile Saffi, the Selfless.

I hope this isn't broken, hAH-

That -6 is pretty busted. Undying would stop Geralf's Messenger shenanigans in an Abzan deck, but would also enable Woodfall Primus shenanigans. Granting recursion abilities is pretty strong overall because they are pretty easy to bust wide open.

Maybe the emblem has "Whenever a creature you control dies, you may return it to your hand."? This way you stay on theme, but you still need to cast it and are now subject to hand size. That seems far more balanced, imo.
