So i see Flickerwisp is now a 4-of in most Death & Taxes lists. Im pretty sure they used to be more common as a 2-of. Is there a reason people play 4 now?

.. Also, its not common to see Aven Mindcensor anymore. Isn't Aven Mindcensor better than Flickerwisp? Am i missing something?

I mean, the wisp is an answer to show and tell decks, so there's that. Not quite sure why else you would jam four. The mindsensor isn't nearly as good in legacy anymore as it is in modern due to all the combo decks being draw-based.

ThatJunkMage: Sure, Flickerwisp delays Emrakul for a turn, but thats pretty much all it does against S&T. Mangara of Corondor is better at dealing with Emrakul. Mindsensor denies mana from fetches and thats pretty much what the deck is about.. Shutting down Natural Order and Green Sun's Zenith is great in the elves matchup. It also deals with Entomb and opposing Stoneforge Mystic.

I dont understand why Flickerwisp is a 4-of and Aven Mindcensor is gone.

Look up some Flickerwisp tricks and be amazed. If you aren't, after learning those tricks and playing with wisp, then I'd be genuinely surprised. The card is incredibly versatile, gets equipped nicely, saves things, denies mana with vial (after the errata).

Mindcensor just sucks unless you're against certain decks, whereas Wisp is good against almost any deck in one way or another. Seriously, try 4.

Oh, and keep in mind that at a tournament, you'll be facing a ton of burn and affinity budget builds, where Mindcensor sucks.

Flickerwisp also gets worked into Mangara tricks if you can get a vial to 3, so it helps there.

It's strong against Omni because it can bounce Omniscience if they don't kill you in response. Ethersworn Canonist is better against Omni, though, so that's more of a pre-board choice.

Wisp is really good with vial, and pretty meh w/o vial. If I can get him online with a vial on 3, it can seriously leverage game-winning plays. Worst case scenario - you get a 3/1 flyer to get some damage over to the face, or chump-block a delver.

His main problem is 1 toughness, so he dies to every sneeze. Another problem is WW in the cost, which may be hard sometimes.

Wisp competes for slots with Aven Mindcensor, Mirran Crusader, Brimaz and Mangara of Corondor. All of those are pretty narrow cards and meta choices, and compared to them, Wisp seems like a swiss army knife. Overall, you don't want more than 5-6 3 drops in DnT. Usually people chose to go 4x Wisps + 2x Mirrans.

I personally run what I call "lightweight" DnT - 3x Wisps, 1x Aven, totalling only 4x cmc 3 drops. The rest of the slots are flexible 2-drops like Jotun Grunt, Spirit of the Labyrinth and Leonin Relic-Warder. This allows me to be faster and more agile, and keep vial on 2 for longer.
