Pack battles are popular between me and the wife and we were always coming across cool interactions and cards that we would normally not play. We would always catch ourselves saying "that would go good in this/that type of deck" or "I wish I had a deck this would fit in." So we decided that we would take cards that we liked and each build a strictly 60 card deck with just the cards that come from the boosters that we crack when pack battling. I would use cards from my packs and she would use from hers. We call it Pack Battle Royal. The decks are constantly evolving as they are always being tweaked a bit after a few pack battles. Nothing is banned. Nothing is restricted. We can run more than 4-ofs. You can't put cards in from outside the pack battles except for basic lands.
As of right now my deck is Abzan. +1/+1 counters, lifegain, and some death shenanigans are sprinkled throughout and it all jives pretty well. My wife has put together some weird Esper concoction that I have yet to get a handle on...>:/
We have a lot of fun with this cool little kitchen table format and I wanted to share it to maybe spark some interest so others can enjoy using some bulk that normally wouldn't see play. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions.
"You might have won the battle, but you've not won the war."
Wife and I enjoy the pack battles and the pack battle royals over modern mainly because I've put money into my modern and she has not and thus I end up crushing her every modern game and she quit playing with me. The pack battle royal is good middle ground and levels the playing field. Play with what you get and if your lucky you'll pull a bomb or 2. It's a very casual "format" that focuses on fun over victory (although we all play to win). Plus it refines deck building skills.

This is kind of how me and my friend started playing magic back in RTR. We both bought a couple of pack per week (never battled tho) and built decks from what we got. We swore never to buy singles. That went on for 6 months or so. It was a really fun period :). Then we started buying singles and invested into Legacy :p
