Why Was Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Unpopular, and What Can Be Done to Fix That?

Lorwyn/Shadowmoor is apparently not one of more popular planes in that game, so I am wondering why that is, and what could be done to fix that problem.

I was not paying close attention to the game at the time of the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block, so I cannot offer the most informed of opinions on this subject, but my presumption is that the block was simply too confusing for most players, given that the plane seemed to lack a cohesive identity, had a great number of mechanics, some of which were better than others, and also had a ridiculously-overpowered tribe in the form of fairies. To fix that, I would suggest that WotC keep the tribal theme, but have it be less prevalent than what it originally was, since WotC does not seem to be emphasizing tribal themes as much recently as they once did; they could also make the tribes more balanced, and not have a single tribe be more obviously powerful than all the others; and they could also have not quite so many mechanics

What does everyone else say about this? Why was the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block unpopular, and what can be done to fix that unpopularity?

unfortunately, I don't think anything will be done to "fix" it. MaRo has said that because the Lorwyn and Kamigawa blocks were so unpopular there will likely never be any plans to make a set on on them again, though they have printed individual cards from those planes. people just don't get nostalgic to revisit bad sets. It's a shame, because I think the art and flavor of Lorwyn block was unique and pretty, and I love tribal limited environments

I never knew lorwyne/shadowmore were unpopular.... or ever thought there were problems...this makes me sad...

I always enjoy dusting off my Treefolk deck and abusing Leaf-Crowned Elder; always fun to play with....I loved the hybrid mana spells and the tribal gimmicks all went so well for EASY and fun deck building.... I use cards from these sets pretty often when I brew.

Sorry I have no suggestions to fix it cuz I loved it...

Raking Canopy against faeries is hilarious btw

I'm with Icbrgr in that I never knew they were unpopular, in fact the artwork and the flavor makes them some of my all time favorites.

if nothing else, thought the untap mechanic was great in that set. Some of the most fun combos can be used with those cards. I hope some day, they bring that back at least.

Bad news for you then the untap symbol has an 8 or 9 on the storm scale. Players found it confusing and awkward. The inspired mechanic from theros effectively replaced it in a less janky implementation though.

There is actually a very clear reason about why it was hated. Obviously, sets cycle in and out of standard. I don’t play but I believe it is something like two blocks at a time? Anyway, Ravnica, arguably the most popular world ever, came right before Lorwyn. Because of the two short blocks with Lorwyn and shadowmoor, Ravnicas time in standard was cut months short of what people were expecting. That’s the reason people hate them. Because they took Ravnica out of standard early.
