Why Are Some Players so Fond of Squirrels?

For some reason, many players, and even Mark Rosewater, want to see a greater number of squirrels in this game, but I cannot understand that desire. In actuality, squirrels are not remotely threatening to humans, so I fail to see why this game cannot use creatures that would actually be threatening to sentient beings.

What does everyone else say about this? Why do some players want to see more squirrels in this game?

If an army of squirrels can take down emrakul, imagine what else they can do!

The real question is "Why aren't more players so fond of Squirrels?" Because Squirrels are awesome!

For a less useless answer: some people just prefer when the game doesn't take itself too seriously. Yes, it's goofy that a Squirrel can fight Savannah Lions to the death but it's just as goofy that a Jackal Pup can do the same to Grizzly Bears . You're never going to be able to resolve the conflict between the gameplay abstraction and the flavour in a 100% consistent way and some players enjoy it more when WotC embrace the absurdity a bit.

Even outside of magic, squirrels are a meme too. Rick and Morty had an episode were squirrels were highly intelligent and were plotting some demise. Rofl
