Scars of Mirrodin Speculation
General forum

So I was talking to some judges and you heard it here first:
- Poison counters are back
- Elspeth may get reprinted (recent rule change for her final ability specifically - puts an indestructibility emblem into play in its own zone that cannot be targeted or effected by cards)
- Poison counters also go in the same area as the emblem
Personally: - Hoping for a new Tez! - Thinking Steel Overseer will go up in price!
If you think this set is seriously overpowered or raising the bar. Take a look at the whole of URZA Block. So some of the cards are really powerful, but the card just shown can not even target a creature only a player so yes it is good although its limited in its function.
I think honestly Wizards staff is trying to take it back to what it was back in the beginning about creatures and not creature-less decks.
Then this is only my opinion and speculation.

Guys go the website gathering magic, they have all the spoilers, wicked early, also, everyone obviously noticed the myr galvanizer infinte mana combo, but what about myr battlesphere infinite damage? Not sure if it would work but if it does, SWEET!!!

@Qysas: Urza block was the last, and worst, broken block. Wizards isn't stupid, they know that Combo Winter was bad for the game, and they won't ever print things like Memory Jar again. IIRC, the FFL came into existence as a direct result of Urza block, because Wizards realised they needed real players - good players - to test the new cards and make sure that they weren't entirely, horrendously overpowered. Additionally, Urza block was released in 1998-1999, more than a decade ago. However, from the released cards so far, this new set will challenge Mirrodin in terms of sheer power level within Standard and possibly Extended, if not in the eternal formats.
Exsanguinate , incidentally, doesn't target - I'm going to run one in my MBC sideboard for dealing with those pesky Leyline of Sanctity s.

@sporkife: I know URZA was a long time ago. Wurmaggeddon as well as Super Squirrel was big then. As well as cards like Tinker and the like.
I am just saying that Wizards is trying to bring creatures back into the face of magic and not the creature-less decks or those that only one 2-8 creatures.
Yes Exsanguinate is great for certain builds I am not downplaying that card by any means. I am just saying it couldn't be used to destroy a creature is all. An a table sweeping life draining effect is good in Standard and limited but crazy strong in a Multi player format.

I am definitely making a Metalcraft deck G/W. Then new Angel Mythic is sweetly disgusting.

Indomitable Archangel 2WW Flying Metalcraft: Artifacts you control have Shroud as long as you control 3 or more artifacts. 4/4
September 13, 2010 1 a.m.
Metalcraft on an angel just doesn't make sense to me. And shroud is so blue. I'm confused.
September 13, 2010 2:10 a.m.
Only thing I can think was it was safer then giving all artifacts Indestructible.

I don't know, the angel's color is fine, just like card:Hanna's Custody was doing alright for itself over a decade ago.

W....T....F....
Stoic Rebuttal ... It's a Cancel when you don't have 3 articafts in play, but a Counterspell when you do ???
Interestingly enough... Etched Champion exiled to a Prototype Portal gives you almost instant protection from coloured stuff 2/2 creatures... Yup, thats right... "Metalcraft - Etched Champion gets protection from all colours"!!! 3 of those alone and only a wrath will wipe them out...
Oh yeah, it's also a soldier... so it should work well with Elspeth Tirel
September 13, 2010 1:24 p.m.
New trend: More artifact based Soldier decks?
Soldier decks are about to get nasty with Etched Champion .
September 13, 2010 3:11 p.m.
Darksteel Sentinel 6cmc 3/3 Flash, Vigilance, and Indestructible.

True Conviction is sick. Six mana is expensive, but I definitely think a couple of them are going to end up in my Ajani's Pridemate lifegain deck.

Kuldotha Phoenix looks like Moltres.
(which is badass)
September 14, 2010 2:43 p.m.
Lol agreed. Kuldotha Phoenix in my opinion is sick nasty.
September 14, 2010 3:22 p.m.
No CharonSquared, Precursor Golem + Tempered Steel + Prototype Portal ftw.
September 14, 2010 7:25 p.m.
fits right on the curve, too - turn 3 enchantment, turn 4 portal, turn 5 3 5/5s.
September 14, 2010 7:31 p.m.
CharonSquared says... #23
Erk, imagine that with a mox opal so that you could start pumping out 5/5 golems on turn 4 X.X For this to be a viable deck though, I definitely think you'd need blue for the counterspells. Otherwise, doom blade and lightning bolt will just decimate you.

Sheeeeesh. But yeah that might actually be able to replace the counterspells. Too bad she's mythic.
September 15, 2010 1:40 a.m.
Sadly she is Mythic. But otherwise she is a beauty I think.
September 15, 2010 1:42 a.m.
Can we please add grindclock? I have a deck that is based around it already but I can't actually add grindclock yet.

Karn is indirectly referenced in Argentum Armor .
September 15, 2010 10:21 p.m.
Umm... I don't think so considering Karn's chest is open...
Though he is wearing Vulshok Gauntlets .
September 15, 2010 10:37 p.m.
squee_goblin_nabob says... #31
all it said was karn made the armor not that it was him wearing it
September 15, 2010 10:41 p.m.
Oh, oh, my bad, I thought nammertime was saying the armor was on him. I read that all wrong, sorry. xD

"Mirrodin's creator still lives, still shapes metal, and still commands world-shaking power."
That's an indirect (or direct, if you see it that way) reference to Karn, not that the card itself represents Karn.
September 15, 2010 10:55 p.m.
squee_goblin_nabob says... #34
but i do wish karn was in this set, he is one of my all tim favs, if you read my background info on mirrodin i posted earlier youll see what i mean lol

Anyone else want to break Prototype Portal as bad as I do? (imagines using Platinum Angel and Lodestone Golem )
Also, that new painful quandry enchantment makes my mono-black discard amazing in single and multiplayer. I love this set so much.
September 16, 2010 5:45 a.m.
Mirror Gallery baby.
Though... that'd take until turn 5 xD

Tunnel Ignus : Ha! It's the anti-Valakut card. And I was just considering building that deck this morning.
Hand of the Praetors : Are poison counters a viable strategy? Yes. Yes, they are.
September 17, 2010 1:11 p.m.
Glimmerpost Land Locus (common) When Glimmerpost enters the battlefield, you gain 1 life for each Locus on the battlefield. T, Add 1 to your mana pool.
Awesome, they're bringing Locuses back. I can't wait to use Cloudpost now, it's going to be so much better.

Spikeshot Elder is my new hero! for Red/Green pump and kill you can not miss him!
Creature - Goblin Shaman
1RR : Spikeshot Elder deals damage equal to his power to target creature or player.
1/1
Thats right, this little dude in the right deck can outright alone win you games...
2 things.
- It doesn't tap to deal damage, so it can be used as a late game surprise pinger. or pumped to outright kill off your opponent.
- It's ability can be triggered as many times as you can get red mana...
September 20, 2010 1:57 p.m.
Razorfield Thresher does have the best flavor text so far. I'm assuming that's what you're referencing kabrazell.
For those who havn't seen it yet:
DANGER! Keep appendages clear of front of machine. And rear of machine. And side of machine. And top of machine.

Scoria Elemental any idea how this will be used? 6/1 for 4(R) ? 5 mana for a 6/1 beastie no trample or anything else.... what is its purpose? Seems like a terrible card.
September 21, 2010 8:04 p.m.
It's like a Valakut Fireboar without the plus-side!
Yeah, so they are releasing the limited cards at this point, might not always have a way they will be "used"
September 21, 2010 10:14 p.m.
Scoria Elemental ? Gotta have something to scrape the gum off my shoes with at the prerelease.
September 22, 2010 12:32 a.m.
After all the play that Arc Runner saw, I guess they figured they had to water it down a little.

All of the Scars of Mirrodin cards have been added to the TappedOut database. If you see any typos or other mistakes, please let me know. Per usual, better images will be uploaded soon-ish after the prerelease.

Okay, honestly, at this point i just have to ask... did wizards just cut funding for the FFL entirely or something? because the power level here is absolutely insane, as is the block-centric nature of the set. I mean, yeah, alara block was a little underpowered, but it seems like they're compensating for something.
