...so meta is now cycling, rogues, and mono-green?

Holy crap! They actually did it! I guess some of my trust in WotC has been restored.

Well every meta has to contain some decks, right? At least those ones aren’t incredibly oppressive.

I think Orzhov Clerics can make a push in a meta like this one as well so we may see an uptick in those being played

Oh yeah I’m not complaining. Those are my 3 favorite decks!

Wow. Omnath is banned everywhere. I'm not sure if escape needed the ban hammer with clover and omnath gone it wouldn't have been as good but I don't think wotc wanted to take the risk

With massive change to the top decks, usually other decks will emerge to take their place. And sometimes its decks that no one was playing - due to being a poor match up against the top deck. Usually RDW or some aggro decks gain popularity until a new "best" is found.

But a lot of people play what has already been brewed by net decking - and have little if any deck building skills of their own. I can tell who they are by how they build during a limited event.. So they are at a loss when the top build or two gets hurt by banning and/or rotation.

I'm just glad I dont play standard, as the bans have been plentiful the last few sets. But I did get impacted as my omnaths will probably take a hit value wise.

I'm so excited! The meta will now be lots of rogues and mono red, but im not here to complain. now I can play my https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/lurrus-value-town-n-shit/ deck for real.

Personally, I like the changes and look forward to seeing what the new meta looks like. I predict rogues will still be solid and the rest will fall into place from there.

Personally not a fan. I also really don't enjoy playing against the dimir decks that have been steamrolling in standard as well.

At least that's been my own experience in the standard meta of MTGA

October 12, 2020 1:20 p.m.

I'm fine playing against rogues because I feel the deck (while Annoying) is fair.

There was ą cycles list on mtg goldfish a few months ago that I’m currently playing a variant of on arena It had basically no removal, so I added a few removal spells.

This is actually really great for me, I had just gotten a full playset of Omnath on Arena. Four free mythic wildcards babay!

(laughs in EDH, can play Omnath)

Now if they could just unban Uro, you know since the card was such an enabler to the Omnath decks that don’t exist anymore.

I want to make Shrine decks in standard part of the meta. This deck held a 50% win rate for me with the top tier being what it was. It matches up well with all aggro strategies as once it stabilizes it can wipe the board and gain life in big chunks. It doesn't mind mill because Sanctum of All is a dumpster diver. It does have some issues with mono-green stompy if you're trying to race giant creatures hitting the board, but if I can get the win rate up about 10% I might start running into some copies which would be cool.

Escape was the biggest problem to be honest. I'm kinda happy about this and kinda not

Which escape cards are broken in particular? The only one that saw a good amount of play was Uro. The spider with escape saw some sideboard play against the rogue decks.

Escape to the Wilds, not Escape the mechanic

How was it the biggest problem? Lucky Clover literally made all adventures OP!

VampDemigod I'm generally anti-ban myself, but my understanding for the escape ban was that it was used as a reliable way to dig for ugin and/or generate extra landfall triggers and was just seen as too powerful for its cost.

I don't think Omnath was OP enough to merit a ban, he was just the face of the decks that were dominating.

Lucky clover was definitely a super powerful engine for adventure decks, and it was a giant pain to deal with. (I got "Stomped" so many times by Bonecrusher Giant)

If a card is in 70+% of decks, it’s almost always banned. Case in point: Smuggler’s Copter.

Lucky Clover was insanely good, BUT there was a variety of artifact removal available.

Omnath was a bit harder to deal with and despite being "busted", it didn't do much on it's own.

A majority of those decks had their power come from drawing 5 for 5. Without Escape to the Wilds they would no longer have access to the cards they needed to continue going, in Omnath's case, additional lands and creatures to use the mana on to continue fueling the engine, and in adventures a fixed way of draw.

Escape was tough to deal with as most Counterspells being printed are situational, and the only way to stop it was by preemptively discarding it.

It was the glue that held both decks together.

I disagree in your power evaluations, but I understand your logic, and do not disagree with it. I may take issue with your evaluations, but I 100% understand why you feel this way.
