Innistrad 3 would have been the perfect time to reprint TWD cards...

With all the controversy over SL:TWD, WOTC came out and announced that they would print MTG-playable IP cards in sets approximately 6 months after release. That is to say, if they make a Secret Lair set for, say, Mortal Kombat then approximately 6 months later they would have cards with different names printed, so that they would be "real" Magic cards.

So far, WOTC dropped the ball on Midnight Hunt by not reprinting any of TWD cards, such as Daryl, Hunter of Walkers and Michonne, Ruthless Survivor.

I could honestly see Rick, Steadfast Leader reprinted as Odric. A very weak, very crappy Odric, compared to what we have seen thus far - but an Odric nonetheless.

What are your thoughts? Think WOTC is going to drop the ball on Innistrad 3's Crimson Vow?

I don't use Twitter / Reddit, so if any of your chaps want to link this thread and ask MaRo, feel free to. I'd be interested in hearing his take on it.

The big thing with Midnight Hunt is that all the Zombie tokens had "Decayed" as an ability. The two cards you mentioned don't fit in with that set, because the Zombie tokens they generate don't have Decayed, and WotC would (rightly) want to avoid mixing up different kinds of 2/2 Zombie tokens in the one set.

The third card you mentioned, Rick, also feels out-of-place for this set, because there's not huge push in this set towards human-tribal or such group-tactics. I think he could have been in the set, but it would have felt forced, as opposed to being an optimal fit.

I would assume if these cards were to be reprinted as "proper magic cards", the first two would be in set(s) with a Zombie theme without "Decayed" tokens, and the third would be in a set focused more around tribal synergies (particularly & obviously with Humans being one of those tribes).

Innistard was likely already designed when they made the statement about giving cards a real mtg version

In their announcement stating they would produce equivalent cards for all upcoming cards based on others’ intellectual property, Wizards stated:

“We plan to do all this for the upcoming, soon-to-be-announced Secret Lair Universes Beyond partnership. We do not plan to go back and do this for the cards from The Walking Dead.”

Now, they could always change what they plan to do and print functional equivalents of TWD cards, but I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon.

So, just gunna point out Rick outclasses every odric card ever printed - like literally the card is gas in any deck that likes humans but other than that I do think innistrad was a really good place to put them - kinda hoping they're equivalents are in the set boosters like the curse commander was but only time will tell.
