How often and what type of paper Magic do you play (if any)?

Covid lockdown in my city has cut my Magic playing down to about once or twice a week.

I can still play because I live with StuBi and we usually play co-op, so no one feels bad if they lose.

We have enough decks between us to keep things interesting.

Before lockdown I was playing every Friday, either Pioneer or casual Magic at a friend's place, and sometimes some games at home.

We play more if I am finalising a deck.

I got modern FNMs going again, for at least one or two more weeks. I do enjoy living in a super antimask area . . . and it's a college town . . .

Modern's my first love, Pioneer is a good replacement when Modern doesn't work. I'd say I enjoy Historic but that's not paper and also I don't enjoy it because Arena's economy is trash.

I play commander 1-3 times a week and I'm thinking of getting back into modern.

In paper my decks are modern and pauper, but i’d like to play some pioneer as well. Outside of fnm though my only opponent (in paper) doesn’t even adhere to formats or banlist because he’s a casual player.

I play EDH a few times a month with my roommates, and I've gone to some in-person prerelease and draft events since getting vaccinated. With cases back on the rise I don't know if I'll keep going, but I do enjoy limited the most in paper.

I can finally go to commander once a week or every-other-week. At times I could go on Saturdays as well, which was great because I’m lucky to have a bunch of different people that I really look forward to playing with...and the only way to get to everyone is with extra days!

Being in NZ has been good for getting in magic games - we haven’t had the same Covid outbreaks as other countries have had to struggle with.

I play the modern event hosted at my local store every Thursday - which is often the highlight of my magic-week. Outside of that, I have a few friends who are casual-players, and we’ll get together to play games and talk nonsense most Fridays.

I play Commander with a few friends roughly once a week, although summer plans have made that more like once a month.

Haven't gone to an event in over a year, since I was never a regular and now it's just difficult to get back.

Prior to March 2020, I used to play EDH on Wednesday at my LGS and sometimes on Saturday with a group of buddies. Our LGS has opened up as of June 15th or so but I have yet to play any paper magic in over a year due to health concerns. That, and I've been too lazy to update any of my decks despite purchasing about 50% of the upgrades for them. So many sets came out during that time and keeping up with them has been demanding. I'm looking forward to playing EDH again once my health gets better. Its just hard to sit down for 5+ hours and eat pizza/unhealthy food when thats the exact opposite of what I should be doing. I do miss the familiar and friendly faces though. I hope in time I can stop by and support my LGS again as MTG has been a very fun and social part of my life. I only playtest decks on tappedout and comments on decks I feel I could help. It's kept my feet in the water so to speak so I feel less rusty.

wallisface "get together to play games and talk nonsense most Fridays" describes my favourite way to play paper Magic.

Profet93 I'm sad to hear that you struggle with your health. Do you mind saying what is causing you difficulties?

I only play paper.

Mostly commander and limited.

Some modern.

I also only play paper.

My pod is comprised of somewhat older folks with quite extensive collections. We focus almost exclusively on Commander and Modern, but once in a while we will Brawl or buy a box for draft. We have recently discussed exploring Pauper.

It's a combination of bad genetics, and the expression of those genetics exacerbated by a lifetime of unhealthy eating, sedentary lifestyle and various injuries I've had since childhood. It's only when I couldn't walk anymore that I decided to take my health into my own hands. I made some significant progress, but I have a long way to go. I consider MTG a privilege so I set a goal to play again once I reach a certain acceptable health threshold.

in person paper magic i play casually with either my wife or brother or random friends probably at least every three months on average... even before the pandemic my paper magic playing really slowed down...life is busy; LGS in my area don't support Modern (I ask about it just about every time I go there)... commander just isn't my flavor... dont feel like draft/standard anymore...sadly more often than not i get my Magic fix on Arena but like ya'll would probably agree it just isnt the same... but Magic is still one heck of a game that i love and will always love.

I also haven't played paper in over a year (aside from some pickup games with family during holidays). For someone that almost never missed a Friday/Saturday for casual modern/commander/limited for years and doesn't get much enjoyment out of arena or struggling to otherwise make remote play work, it's been pretty bad for my mental health. It's frustrating to think that had people taken the pandemic more seriously from the beginning, hobbyists of all types could have been back to doing their thing months ago. The bar and dance saloon across the street from the store I play at flaunted regulations by opening their doors to unmasked patrons literally two weeks into the first lockdown. Meanwhile, said LGS only recently opened up their gaming room and only to small groups of miniature wargame players that are required to submit to temperature checks at the door and maintain 6 ft. of separation at all times. I'm definitely grateful that the Magic and larger gaming community tends to place greater emphasis on scientific literacy and the appropriate safety precautions such literacy encourages, but I would also definitely be lying if I said I wasn't itching to get back to playing the game I love in the way it was designed to be played.

Twice a week I hit up the LGS for commander, and usually once every couple weeks I will get together with one of my playgroups for more commander.
