Goblins vs Merfolk Dual Deck

Bring it.

So, I swore that I wouldn't buy the latest Dual Deck, as I have so many of them, including the first Goblins vs Elves.

Then, my friend and I didn't have any cards on us, and wanted a game at my LGS, so we bought the Dual Deck.

It is so much fun!

I was having a blast playing classic Goblins like Goblin Rabblemaster, and Krenko, Mob Boss.

I noticed that he was getting to sling some of my favourite spells like Claustrophobia, and Harbinger of the Tides.

I let him keep the decks, then went out and grabbed a copy for myself.

Can't wait to give them a run with StuBi.

So can Merfolks actually win? I played yesterday with a friend of mine and the Goblins were always too fast.

Merfolk won a LOT of the games we played.

You have to know when to use cards that interrupt the Goblins, like the aforementioned Claustrophobia, and Engulf the Shore, and make good use of your foil Master of Waves.

The Professor did a review of the product and found the decks to be balanced against each other. I concur with his findings.

It should be said, though, that the Merfolk probably do better when played by someone who has a bit of experience with Magic, whereas Goblins could perform well even if piloted by a beginner.

That is usually the case when playing tempo.

I played with my brother using the decks and both are really fun. Neither seems to overpower the other.

That said Goblins are naturally faster and can win the game quickly, while Merfolk are more resilient and have a much better late game. It's easier for the Merfolk to come back than it is for the Goblins.

Argy and that's exactly the problem: we drew only the Master and just one time. Misfortune at its finest.

IlGuale I did not say that is the only card Merfolk can win with.

It is not.

What I said was that the Merfolk Deck is a tempo strategy, and you need to be able to play Magic well to win with it.

You may just need more practice.

Maybe i have to explain myself better. I played with Merfolks just one time, for the majority of the time i used Goblins. Then, what i tried to tell you is that we never drew a single Claustrophobia, nor a Tidal Wave and when my friend drew the single MoW I killed him before He could get to four lands.

There will always be random bad luck in Magic.

If you have read what I and others have said you will see that it hasn't been our experience that Goblins are OP.

You will also notice that I said Master of Waves is not the ONLY good Merfolk card in the deck.

It wouldn't have helped in the early game, anyway.

My friend got one on the field when he had two of my Goblins locked down with Claustrophobia. It was Merfolk City, by that stage.
