I Need Help Finding Card Draw Engines For Red, White and Blue in EDH

Deck Help forum

Posted on Aug. 24, 2016, 6:09 p.m. by theindigoeffect

I'm specifically looking for card draw engines that provide card draw just for me, as opposed to providing card draw for my opponents, and I'm also open to suggestions for colorless card draw engines that fit the aforementioned criteria.

As always, thank you for your help.

What format?

Rhystic Study and Mystic Remora are great in Multiplayer.

Staff of Nin is pretty good, you can also abuse Peregrine Drake + Palinchron + Deadeye Navigator + Eldrazi Displacer with Mulldrifter or Sea Gate Oracle any etbs creature to be honest. I really like Sphinx's Revelation as well

What will be most effective depends heavily on context.

If you have access to blue, the most generally good cards are the aforementioned Mystic Remora, Rhystic Study, and Consecrated Sphinx. I think you can safely add Stroke of Genius and Blue Sun's Zenith to that category, though of course they serve a different role from the permanents.

If your deck has a lot of support for ETB abuse, such as clones, bounce, flick, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Cloudstone Curio, etc. then Mulldrifter is very useful.

In red and white, the best draw option is usually Skullclamp with tokens and/or sacrifice. Mentor of the Meek is decent as well, but white's meager advantage really comes from recursion such as Sun Titan, Reveillark, Gift of Immortality, etc. and Land Tax abuse. In red's case, it's either timely Wheel of Fortune effects or piddly things like Outpost Siege and Chandra, Pyromaster.

Essentially if you have access to blue you want to lean on that. I tend to prefer permanents / engines to one-off draws but, again, it really depends a lot on the deck and the meta.

What I mean by context is that cards like Fact or Fiction and Careful Consideration are excellent in decks that can easily use the graveyard, but mediocre otherwise.

Insert copy/pasted lists for ya!

And if you want burst draw, let me know. That's a whole another list

I recommend google

I've tried Google: I get more comprehensive and up-to-date information via the Rules Q&A section: that's why it exists in the first place.

If I wanted to read a thread from four years ago that only partially provides the answers to my questions, then I'd use Google.
