Can Reverse Lifegain Compete?

Deck Help forum

Good Morning MTG Community,

Today I have created quite the meme of an Abzan build on a budget, the strategy of which is to fog damage, kill some creatures and gain life until you topdeck Tainted Remedy. At this point the roles reverse, and you simply shower your opponents with life until they die. Happy End.

After playtesting, I realise I was averaging lethal damage on an opponent by turn 9–13, not even taking into account counterspells. In my opinion this is a little too slow. Could you give me advice on:

Are there other cards like Tainted Remedy that can increase the odds of drawing this part of the combo?

Should I run more removal? if so, should it have a cycle effect?

Would you splash another color to make up for a lack of creatures or a lack of removal?

How would you feel if you had to play this deck against your friends?

I really like this idea. Your deck is listed as legacy, I'm pretty sure it won't have any chance there. As a casual list, it seems great.

There is one other card I know of: Rain of Gore. Your best chance to find Remedy might be Idyllic Tutor.

For the fog and lifegain Plan, I have a list you might want to have a look at. It isn't a Tainted Remedy list, but the basic shell might be useful if you exchange my wincon with yours:

Maybe a tutor or two? Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, or Beseech the Queen could work.

seshiro_of_the_orochi Rain of Gore only works if the spell causes it's controller to gain life.

Flooremoji: Well, I guess reading the card explains the card :)

I love that strategy - in fact, I built a whole deck around it. If you want to check out some of the fun things I did, feel free to check it out! Ah Ah Ah Ah Stayin' Alive!!!

shadow63 I was thinking the same thing. It might not go towards the actual concept but would work well imo as a backup plan.

Yeah, that'd be a fun casual deck. I had a friend who ran something similar. A card he got a lot of use out of was Vizkopa Guildmage. I wouldn't run a deck like this outside of kitchen table Magic, though. Definitely not tournament viable.
