Adding more control to a deck

Deck Help forum

Posted on June 11, 2017, 3:14 p.m. by GodCyphus

My current deck, Infestation, works decently well until people start getting instants that give all of my creatures negative health and wipe the board of all of my tokens. What are some useful additions I can make to my deck to stop things like this from happening?

Getting around an indiscriminate board wipe like Wrath of God or Damnation is pretty hard for . I'm not sure really what you could do other than bite the bullet and outrace your opponent.

What about Heroic Intervention?

solarPULSAR Yeah, that's exactly what I'm looking for! If there are similar permanents, that would be great too!

GodCyphus If your friends dont the play cards TMBRLZ mentioned that state no regeneration, you can try Asceticism. It won't help against board wipes since hexproof only denies targeting, but the cost regenerate is absolutely awesome.

If youre not playing Modern format rules, you can also add in regenerate cards like Seedling Charm or Refresh as well.

As previously mentioned Golgari has very limited options against counters and board wipes. Usually the answer is to simply outpace your opponents before they can get to the point where they can wipe your board.

Of course, you can always splash and add some counter cards for yourself, if you don't mind paying a bunch of more money for a landbase that can support those spells.

solarPULSAR I considered splashing for some counters but I'd personally rather not. Asceticism would be an amazing card for this deck though, thank you for the suggestions!

Yeah that card is pretty insane. Can't believe I missed that during spoiler season.

It should be noted that Indestructible won't save you from cards like Languish.

If a creatures toughness is reduced to 0 or below, regardless of keywording, it will be read by state-based actions and sent to the graveyard immediately. Regeneration would offer no solace either.

Yes, you would have to add some sort of Bounce/Exile effect to defeat cards like Languish

solarPULSAR TMBRLZ well those are what I'm mainly looking out for, what can I do to counter those sticking close to my colors?

Im not aware of anything that can beat that in alone. You would need or for counters or bounce. The only thing you could do is have creatures that can be sacrificed so you can still get value out of them, or creatures that spawn a token when they die like Blisterpod or Carrier Thrall

The problem is you're playing a deck that sticks really low to the ground. You are doing half the opponents work to kill your creatures for them, albeit with winning in mind, but it leaves you very vulnerable. Especially if we're looking at multiplayer situations where the potential to have cards pointed at you increases.

For your colors you are better off trying to incorporate "from the grave" strategies than you are keeping your creatures alive. Golgari's mandate is pretty much "THE DEAD WILL RISE AND YOU WONT LIKE IT." But your deck is trying to play out like an agro deck that slowly kills itself.

Instead of avoiding board wipes, I'd suggest seeing if you can tweak the deck so that you instead aren't worried about them. Look for reliable methods of benefiting from the death of your own or bringing them back for an encore presentation. The average player typically won't run more than two board wipes in a logical deck. So if you have methods of shrugging that off, you'll be golden.
