Yurk, Aurochs Avalancher

Custom Cards forum

I just remembered Aurochs is an actual creature type with a proud number of four cards to it. And guess what, I love bad tribes. Thus, I tried to come up with a legendary Aurochs when the card creation challenge gave me a chance to do so. Here's the result:

This is a dumb, colossal creature that basically is a Craterhoof Behemoth in the command zone. It gives an absurd pump to dour time while also having snow synergy.

What are your thoughts?

Since Pathbreaker Ibex only gives +3/+3 by itself, Blossoming Bogbeast only gives +2/+2, and Craterhoof Behemoth gives +1/+1, I think +5 power (even with no toughness buff) may be too high a baseline. 4 would be fine.

Omniscience_is_life: That sounds good, I'll adjust accordingly.

Such a fun card! I really like the snow mechanic and it definitely doesn't get enough love. Every now and then it pops up like, eh, want some snow? But it just never feels like a fleshed out idea, you know? It could just be me : )

Either way, snow, big creatures, and a legendary auroch all sounds amazing to me.

brandonplaysmagic: Thanks, mate!

Niko9: That's exactly the reason I gave it its second ability. Snow is such a cool mechanic, but these stupid snow basics are just too expensive for a card you need like 20 of with minimal added value.

Aurochs is my favorite tribe! I was so sad they didn’t come out with new ones in Kaldheim :’( This custom definitely does the clan some justice though

The creature type and animal name is Auroch, not Aurochs. So you'd want to drop the plurality in each of your uses.

Is there a historical precedent for mono-green to deal direct damage on such a wide basis? I mean it sure is a neat idea but, that feels strikingly more Gruul and not mono?

TypicalTimmy: Looking at the existing cards like Aurochs Herd, Aurochs is definitely the correct singular.

Regarding the activated ability: While arguments for being Gruul can be found, the avalanche flavour it is meant to invoke comes close to natural disaster spells like Hurricane and the like, so Mono- works.

This gives me an idea...

Iceland Marauders

Snow Creature - Aurochs Minotaur

Trample, Snow-Vigilance (This creature has vigilance if it is attacking an opponent who controls a Snow permanent.)

Other Aurochs you control have Snow-vigilance.

Other Minotaur you control have trample.

5/5

Basically, a Humanoid-Minotaur like version of an Auroch. Not unlike how a Loxodon is an Elephant person or a Rhox is a Rhino person.
