Wojtek, Fearless Stalwart

Inspired by the real-life WWII brown bear that the Polish enlisted to help fight The Axis, named Wojtek.

That's crazy. I never knew that. I know it was probably a lot less theatrical in real life, but the thought of some Nazis running in fear from a squad who just yelled "UNLEASH THE BEAR!" just seems incredibly awesome and incredibly hilarious to me. lol

The card design is great, by the way. My voltron and token loving self would have a field day with this card. I also love the mana cost (2-2-2 because it's a bear) but I feel the wording could be a bit better. Maybe separating the aura and equip costs line into two?

"Aura spells that target ~ cost less to cast"

"Equip costs you pay that target ~ cost less."

I also feel like this could also be either Azorius or Gruul, but that would mean changing the bear and soldier part, so it's better as it is.

Great job!

Those do sound like good changes. Thanks mate!

I was considering Naya, but flavorfully the red just didn't feel like it made sense.

Question: Would Human Soldier tokens be better? Then you have two tribes to help reinforce them.

It is 2 colors and 4 pips, so the power should be closer to Aurelia. Maybe Human Soldier is a better power level?

Access to red would be a bit too strong, come to think of it. This commander paired with any sort of Impact Tremors effect would be brutal.

I think human soldiers would be fine.

You know I'm a big fan of your designs, but the real world history behind this one makes it special. He's a strong commander, but I'd run him just for the flavour. I love that he's the herald for the army of tokens that follows him.

If you have time, I'd love to see your take on a card for Gander, the Newfoundland dog that fought in WWII as well.

Alright, I updated. Site sometimes lags a bit so wait a few minutes to see if it updated here, as well.

I'm curious. He's a 5/5 for 6. I'd like to continue the Bear trend and make him a 6/6 for 6, but that feels wrong. He's very clearly Voltron, so honestly he could just be a 2/2 since he's going to be stacked like a platter of Denny's pancakes.

So, should he be a true Bear and be a 2/2?

There's precendence for this ability in red due to Valduk, Keeper of the Flame, but it really feels like a Selesnya card. Very cool design.
